Hi,

looks like I may be up the paddle without a creek here..

I have several Xbox's with the Xecuter3 mod chip, I screwed one of them up by losing the solder joint on the red lad2 connection the other side of the LPC. For a noob like me that one was a really tricky solder joint directly to the board first time around.

Anyways - so I screwed up the joint and figured hey I'll just swap the motherboards out from a new box I had and do it again. So I did and I finally got to the blue screen so I could install the bios. I have now done this and I am getting an error code 06. I know this means I have the wrong hard drive connected to the wrong motherboard and to get around it all I need to do is get the original hard drive from the replaced board, unlock it - swap disks and lock it again. Problem is..... I don't have the original hard drive anymore, I can not get it back and so here I am stuck with an xbox that will not work.

Does anybody know how I can fix this?

Thanks

Wayne

tonylott thanks for your response - not quite the case, but nonetheless I can see your interpretation of my post. Since I am not fond of flaming I will not comment any further on your remarks to prevent provocation - but I ask if anybody has any good suggestions?

thanks

Buy a new hard drive from any local computer parts store, use X3Config Live to format, use Slayers Disk to install the MS software on the C: partition, buy/get a new eeprom.bin file for your xbox 1.6, and use config magic to update your eeprom http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/configmagic.php.

Fortunately I was able to get the other xbox back.. go figure it was having the same problem :)

Anyway - for future reference Mobius, could you detail how to achieve what you posted. For example as a noob I have no idea what slayers disk, what config magic is and where or how to get hold of a new eeprom.bin?

I can put together a tutorial if you guide me down the right path.

cheers

M$ locks HDs so that you can't just swap them out and have access to the information on them. They create a password based on the HD's hardware and the EEPROM of the XBOX it was locked on. A Locked HD won't respond to ANY HD command until it is unlocked.

There is a PC program that can generate that password if you backed up your Eeprom and have the EEPROM.bin from that XBOX. I have heard that sometimes it works without the EEPROM.bin, but I find that sketchy.

Once you have the Password you can (again on a PC) unlock the drive and disable the lock, allowing you to used it again.

If you search through my posts, you'll see much more detailed instructions.

Have fun!

It's exactly this kind of post which really pisses me off.

You screwed up - hell, we've ALL screwed up on something at least once in our lives.

Someone posts on how to recify the problem. Instead of taking the information on board and actually SEARCHING the internet (you know, that WWW thing you used to get here in the first place), you now want step-by-step instructions. Have you even read the tutorials at Xbox-Scene.com?

Here's what bothers me....

"I have several Xbox's with the Xecuter3 mod chip"

Something tells me you're chipping other people's Xboxes.

This isn't the problem - not understanding what you are doing is.

I suggest you put the soldering iron away for now and get reading. There are hundreds of posts on "Error 06" on the internet. Messing up your own Xbox is one thing.

Messing up someone else's is quite something else.
