I read that XBOX2 will be coming out before December, do you think there could be a mod that lets you buy an XBOX2 DVD drive from ebay and attach it to your XBOX to play XBOX2 games? Also, if necessary, you could easily upgrade the processor too right?

? I was being serious, if XBOX2 uses a dvd drive, there should be a mod that lets you fit it to an original modded XBOX with software to play it as long as the processors the same as the XBOX2's or better.
Sorry -looks like the X2 is a new architecture across the board. Developers got modfied macs as their dev platform, and I *think* it was based around a powerPC CPU (as made by IBM for Apple). The Xbox is a pretty standard PC/Intel architecture.
So, swapping the DVD drive for one of the new BluRay drives might be an option, but the CPU swap is completely out. My guess is that (via hardware emulation) the X2 will be able to play Xbox games (they'd shoot themselves in the foot if this wasn't the case), but not vice versa.
BUT - the long asked for PS2 emulator might be a possibilty on the newer hardware

Man in what World are you in???... Xbox2 will be based in some kind of POWER PC Architecture, that is totally different to the XBOX 1!!!.....
It's a shame, 'cos my XBOX is so cool now, I will hate to buy an XBOX2 and leave it to gather dust.
i personally don't think i'll be buying an xbox 2 or ne new next gen system. i just don't have the time to mess with them and from what i've heard about starting price... lil more then i'm willing to pay for a video game system. what i got now will probably be the end of it for me. pc gaming will contine but thats probably about it..

Two of us guys in posts #5, and #6 have pointed out that the DVD drive might work, but that the Xbox, an Xbox2 are completely different architectures (Intel vs PowerPC ... big endian vs little endian ... NVidia vs ATi).Ahmed said:

Uh, I have a question... why are we even discussing this!? The XBox II won't be out for at least a year (probably longer, because anything that has that much anticipation usually gets delayed ). Heck, they haven't even decided yet if they are going to use DVDs or BluRay disks! We don't even have the hardware information yet, let alone software details! Seems like a pointless thread to me... but hey, whatever. I'm done.

i thought the dvd drive for xbox 2 was smaller and thinner, i have seen a pic of the xbox2 (released in november) and the dvd drive looks different, but thats a really good idea. i might be wrong, maybe it could fit!
