Xbox 360 E Internal Memory Help!

Hey guys.

I am new to the forums; I found this site because I have been digging to try to find a solution for an issue I am currently having.

I just recently bought an Xbox 360 E from someone for $50; they said there wasn't a single issue when it came to being able to play games and other simple tasks. However, upon trying to download my profile from xbox live, it asked me to do a system update. This is where things get a little complicated (for me, at least). Whenever I tried to download the update, no matter what I did, it would download the update, but when it attempted to apply the update, it failed. It is believed the 4gb internal memory device is corrupt, even though the device did not fall under "unformatable". I have exhausted all possible troubleshooting options, both with and without xbox support. Upon further inspection, I have came to the assumption the memory unit is entirely corrupt, and must be either replaced or removed. I have taken the xbox apart, and currently have a good view of the motherboard. I am looking for a pin-point location of the memory device, along with any advice for my situation. I want to do this the cheapest way possible; I do not care if I will no longer be able to have this internal storage, as long as it runs and I will be able to connect to Xbox live. Thanks in advance!

cheapest way possible is to format a flash drive with the console and take the update that way. bad thing is ur console internal memory will die pretty soon. and ull have to convert it into a 16mb or replace w/ another 4gb

That is precisely what I did. The internal drive is corrupt to the point where it will override any other memory unit to download Xbox live updates, but corrupts the data in the process. The system recognizes the memory unit to be fine, however. I am looking for a way to entirely remove the internal memory, and replace it if it is at all necessary. When I tried installing the update to the flash drive, it still required me to install the updates. It continued to put me in a loop. Is there any way to detach the internal storage without hurting the rest of the system? If not, what does it take to replace the 4gb internal memory unit?

Nope convert to 16mb nand

I need to convert the internal storage to a 16mb NAND? Is there a thread I could go about searching on? Also, could anyone point me in the right direction towards where the internal storage actually is?

Update: I found out that the Memory unit is integrated with the NAND Flash chip. Is there any way I could repair/replace this piece? At this point, anything helps.

The circled area is your 4gb nand.20161201_162140.jpg

The quick and dirty of what needs to happen is the following
-Attached a 4gb reader and try and get a dump of your current nand
-Removed 4gb nand and related components
-Installed a new 16mb nand and related components (these are all SMD so require someone who knows what they are doing)
-Temp RGH console to get CPU key
-Make a new 16mb nand from 4gb data and CPU key and flash to the 16mb nand.

Attaching a USB drive or internal hard drive and formatting it from the system menu should allow you to install the update if the console is still working.

Thanks a ton for this information!

The issue with attaching a USB Drive or Internal hard drive is that while that would normally work, the corrupt memory inside of the NAND chip is "hoarding" the update information; it is downloading the update, then corrupting the information before it can finish downloading. This is why i'm asking if there is a way to get rid of the 4gb internal memory storage what-so-ever so that the xbox would force itself to download onto another device.

Download the update manually from microsoft and place the $systemupdate folder on a usb drive formatted in fat32

That sounds similar to something I did during my troubleshooting process. I had to format the usb drive to fat32 (Which I did an entire format change so that the drive was clean), then download the update. They then told me to unzip the file and put each individual file onto the flash drive. Did the contents of the update have to be put in a specifically named folder?

dont want to post links to other website. but an easy google research "Converting 4GB NAND to 16MB nand" will help you get to where u want to go.
Is there anyone on this site who is offering this sort of service? I do not have the time nor the materials to do something of the sort. If there are people offering this type of service, how much would it cost about? A ballpark estimate is fine.

it would be cheaper and less of a hassle if u just buy a used xbox

Update: I tried putting the xbox back together and using a usb drive with the update; it said the update could not be processed. The 4gb memory unit is corrupt. Does this mean I need to replace the NAND chip?

I failed installing a cr4xl then tried desoldering the red cord, touched one sode of resistor with soldering iron and the heatsink at the same time, it was plugged in. Heard a pop and now now power at all. I already have another console
