i was wondering what kind of hard drive the new xbox 360 elite xbox's have. i just picked one up and i am wanting to mod it.

Look at the Lot number on the box (on the sticker with the UPC code bars). Lot numbers 709 and 710 seem to be Hitachi 78fk, which you can flash.
I see that you can buy the 120 gig HD outright (too expensive but...what the heck! $179...and it's only a lap top HD...go figure). It does however come with a data transfer cable that lets you move everything from the 20 gig'er to the big daddy then it wipes the 20 gig HD clean.
I already have a Black Night case and a black wireless controller so I guess I'm gonna go for it. Can't mod the Elite DVD drive so I say this is the next best thing. Pseudo Elite!
Probably get a couple of bucks for the old HD too. That would be cool.

well i checked the manufacturer date and it says march 15 of 07 on back of the xbox 360 elite. i have gotten all the way to the step in taking part the xbox where i need to a torx 10 screw driver but my dad has them in his truck and doesnt wanna get them out till tomorrow so looks like im going to have to wait to see what kind of drive it is definitely. hooefully it is a drive i can flash. is there any way i can help in the development of a firmware flash for the new hitachi drives if mine turns out to be that one? or are there sample firmwares that can be tested, or what stage are people in of developing a working firmware for the new hitachi drives? sorry for so many questions but i am new to the xbox 360 modding scene. i have a regular xbox modded with an xecuter 3 chip with a 500 gig hard drive. hopefully i can be some help to this community.

I was hoping not to see a BENQ drive as there are no flashing utilities available at the moment so there is no ability to replace the DVD drive or use this as a parts motherboard. Extracting the drive key and flashing the firmware of this unit wont be a problem!"
