Hi thank you for clicking this thread. I am grateful for any answers you may have. So lets begin.

I bought a lot of Xbox 360 on eBay. In the lot was a good Xbox 360 with a broken Lite-On (DG-16D2S) DVD drive. I opened the DVD drive and saw that the sensor that reads games was broken off. When ever the DVD drive is connected to the Xbox 360 the middle RF Board light starts blinking. You know when you eject the DVD drive and the light blinks that type of blinking. Now i have a fat Xbox 360 Benq DVD drive that i want to switch with. I just want to know is it possible to get the DVD key from a drive that won't even open. I mean it's stuck real hard. Then there is the sensor. or the blinking won't effect the process of me extracting the dvd key from the drive?

BTW : I also have a picture that shows where the sensor is broken from.

I believe you can extract the key from just DVDs pcb without anything else connected to it ie laser / drive motor, some people even advise disconnecting laser before flashing. If the laser is the only fault with original drive why not just replace that. Also take a look at the jungle flasher tut

If the middle light on the ROL is flashing on boot then the liteon pcb may be dead like u said. I would look over the pcb for damage or loose connections. If jungle flasher doesn't detect it then u will need a new liteon drive and a way to extract the DVD key from your motherboard (RGH/R-jtag) as u cannot use a different model drive on a retail box. If u keep it RGH then any drive will work with correct key flashed. Good luck.

you cant swap a liteon for a Benq as the console will fail the AP2.5 checks on all newer games.

you must replce the drive like for like in order for games to boot correctly, backup or retail doesnt matter.

Oh i thought that if you had the DVD key you can change to any DVD drive. Wow but its good to know that it's not possible. I will see how to extract dvd key from motherboard.

i actually tried that. After switching drives i put a game in the dvd drive, the game would start to play but after 3 seconds it would return to home page. While the game would start to play the disc reader would get really loud like a jet engine.

Did you flash the BenQ drive with the key?

If you are not using xbox live you can swap out the liteon for a benq and it will work fine , as i did one for a lad at work a few months back.
it has nothing to do with xbox live, its all to do with AP2.5 checks. symptoms will be game will boot to black screen and reset to dash in a few secs.

Whilst this is true, it only happens if you spoof the drive.
If you use a benq drive with benq fw in an Xbox that originally had a lite on drive it will work provided you use the correct drive key. It probably isn't live safe because drive osig won't match what's in the nand but since the drives got updated by ms they no longer match anyway.
The ap25 checks get broken when you spoof the drive to think its another type. This is why spoofing is no longer supported.
