LITEON DG-16D2S Xbox 360 - Fitted new laser but not reading disc's !

Hello,
I ordered a new laser for my lite-on drive remove the solder from the laser. I fitted it on the drive and boot it up, im getting the error of open tray showing up so the discs are not being read. It sounds like the DVD drive is humming like it starts to read and then it just stops. Any idea's on why this happening ?

Were did you get the laser from as it sounds like a dud. Also check that the worm gear and the spindle motor rotate ok.

I gather you took the solder ball off ?

I have just took a picture of the solder after it is taken off. Also the motor and every thing is fine

Must be a dodgy laser then, loads of crap ones on ebay where did you get it from.

I got it from some one called gadget-master-ltd. He sells alot of laser and has good feedback for them

I only use one company on ebay who has never failed as they are new not refurbs and everyone i have had has been perfect.

Do you have a multimeter at all? Set it to 20k ohms...

Should be above 5 and inbetween 5 and 7 if new!

Lasers should normally be between a minimum of 3 and 5 normally around 4.5 is the sweat spot.

On more than one occasion I've had to reseat the ribbon cable (sometimes several times) to get the laser to start working again. Try getting it in further before engaging the lock. Those ribbon cables are pretty cheesy and not really meant to be taken in and out several times.

I have ordered a new ribbon too.. Mines looks a lil rough after removing it so many times just hope this solves the issue

UPDATE: yes buying a new laser ribbon solved my issues.. Ribbons can easily be damaged when replacing lasers and sometimes new lasers can be faulty.

The reason my laser went bust because my ck3 kit burnt it out.. Never happened before but i guess my kit is getting old.. So always unplug laser ribbon before flashing.
