hi

im thinking of getting hold of an xbox 360 s to modify just to play media files and if possible run my external hard drive (doesnt work on my current 360 think its due to needing its own power supply) im just curious do i need a mod chip to sort this out or are there any custom firmware versions out there that do it

hope you guys can help thanks

The best media player for the 360 is xm360, which runs through xell. it may require a glitch chip, it depends on the cb version, and type of console. if it is an old phat running 7371 or lower all it requires is 2 diodes, and some wire, and a nand reader. If not it will require a glitch chip of some sort(Coolrunner, CR3-Pro, RGX, R-Jtag, CR4-XL(Not released yet)). You could also go with the easier option, and install serviio on your computer, and stream them via dlna across the network. Serviio is nice, as it transcodes the files on the fly(Can only use 1 processor core, so some video files glitch)
