Hi Everyone!

I apologize in advance, I'm a bit out of my league here as I'm not super savy when it comes to something this in depth with electronics.

I have an Xbox 360 slim that I haven't tried to turn on for a couple years. It worked perfectly before, life just got busy. We decided to start using it again, but when I turn it on the power light turns green for a moment, the fan fires up, but almost immediately the power light turns red and starts blinking (blinks 13 times, if that matters) at which point the console shuts itself off. I never get to the point where there is any sort of code on the screen or anything like that. Randomly the disc drive opens like 4/5ths of the way as well when trying to turn it on.

The power brick itself seems to be working perfectly fine and I've tried a couple different outlets. I've taken the case off so I could blow some air through everything. I've tried putting a hard drive in and taking it back out (never have had one in it before). None of these have fixed my problem.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated! If I haven't supplied enough information, please let me know and I will get the required information!

Hardware malfunction or overhearing CPU. I personally think overheating.

Fix- Replace thermal paste.

The solder balls may be cracked or broken, that can also cause overheating if that's the problem.

First the system isnt on long enough for it to overheat. Get the code, by holding the Sync button, and hitting eject 4 times. Each time you hit eject, the controller lights will light up, and give you a number. where all 4 lights = 0, 1 light = 1, 2 = 2 , 3 =3. Once you get the 4 digit code, you can google it, and it will give you an idea of what is wrong. Though, it probably did over heat at some point, and needs to be reballed, other options include a corrupted nand image while updating, blown ethernet chip, etc...... There is a lot that can go wrong, and the code is the only thing that will give you an idea of what it is.
