XBOX 360 Slim 4GB will not update

I could use some help here.
xbox 360 slim 4gb
corona motherboard.
don't know which drive is in it.
I have added a 250 gb hard drive ( not oem )

This system started showing an unformatted space where the 4gb should be. I am unable to format this memory. The XBox will no longer update from Xbox Live. I assume the update has to write something to the internal memory and cannot. I have tried to update via download, usb, and dvd. Update fails everytime. Contacted xbox ( unit just out of warranty) they had me press all kinds of buttons on the controller that effectively removed all previous updates. System still will not update, and now all my kinect games dont work.
I do not have an Xbox Gold account. I really don't care about getting banned or playing online games.
I do want my kids to be able to play all the games they have purchased ( Many online)

So I have started looking into modding this system, but I am very confused.
I have seen things like
RGH
JTAG
Coolrunner
Slim Proto V2

but I cant seem to find any information about what each of these mods actually do.
If anyone has seen a problem similar to mine, or has any suggestions, please let me know.

If you don't care for XBL, glitch the console and install an internal HDD.

The 4GB memory unit might be corrupted, so you can either replace it, remove it or enable the "nointmu" patch when you build your glitch image.

do as the man above said.. forget about the RGH and JTAG or coolrunner... slim PROTO v2 is coming out real soon .. thats what you want to get

until then, read, read and read .. the install , tuning and setup will be that much easier when you get the chip

Thanks. Any idea where I can find info on the slim proto v2? what does it do? Can I flash a new version of xbox program into my machine? ( Complete noob to xbox mods. )

install guide will be exactly the same, if not very similar to proto v1 .. i would read in the proto v1 section and check the install guide

if by "xbox program" you mean dash, then yes, once the console is glitched, then you can use the latest dash

The slim proto v2 should be available in the next few days I believe.

The slim proto is a glitch chip which allows your console to boot modified images which lets you run unsigned applications (homebrew) on your console.

It uses custom code which makes it much faster and more reliable than any other glitch chip on the market.

Before you purchase or do anything, search the forum and teach yourself a bit about RGH.
