RGH XBox 360 Slim (Corona) -- is RGH2 possible with a legitimate CR Rev B?

Hi all -

I could not find a definitive answer to this question: but is it possible to RGH2 an Xbox 360 Slim 4GB (Corona) with a legitimate Coolrunner Rev B? (Please see the attached pic). It's been at least a year since I JTAG'ed/RJTAG'ed a unit, but those were all Xbox 360 phat models.

The reason why I'm asking is he following: I think the slim console has a bad NAND flash - the console says the internal storage has 44MB free. I format the internal storage and it says it completed (and marketedly reports the free space is regained) but when shutdown/reboot the unit, the storage claims there is 44MB free again. There are also corrupted items that show up in the file list. I have not yet taken the Xbox 360 Slim apart yet. This sounds like a NAND to me.

I was hoping to be able to dump the NAND, RGH2 it to get the CPU key, replace the NAND chip, and write the NAND contents back and return to stock.

Thanks in advance!

yes you can, but you will either need a corona nand r/w qsb(comes with crystal) or a crystal for B pad. then you can use the xsvf files in j-runner. personally I find it is extremely unreliable, so I would suggest you look into S-RGH, which requires a $7 chip, from another company, or a DGX, which is hard to find. Much more reliable timing files, and the chip comes with a working crystal.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to be able to do it with the existing TX products as i've been very impressed with the product support and quality. I'll poke around and see if I can find the QSB and the external crystal documentation just for my own knowledge anyway (do you have a quick link available?). What are the PPM (tolerance) and frequency requirements for the crystal oscillator?

I'll look into S-RGH as well .... a quick search seems to show that runs on the 360ACE?

Thanks!

Here is the guide, as said, the qsb has the crystal on it. But it is really unreliable, and might take a half hour to hour to glitch, without messing with wire lengths. The other method is much more reliable, even if you dont plan on leaving it in, and costs about as much as the qsb, depending on where you get the chip. I like TX also(All of my xboxes have TX Chips), but have found that method to be really reliable for the price(Installed for a few customers that wanted to save money). ;) Good luck.

Thanks! Looks like i can get the 360ACE for about $4 + $5 shipping. It's worth a shot. The console was free. I figure if I can get it working for a few bucks then I'll be happy with that. If not, no big deal.

I found the Corona identification diagrams ... looks like the NAND form-factor changed between versions. I can definitely replace parts from the V1, V3/V5 consoles. The V2, V4, V6 consoles i can't do and i'll just part this one out.

Thanks!

Actually if you look on teamx360, you can look at the 4GB dual nand guide, and basically follow that, so dump the nand, and then remove/move/replace the resistors, and use another teams dual nand board, that is just a nand chip, and install it as like a dual nand. You dont have to remove the 4GB nand chip, once the resistors are removed/moved/replaced, then the console will ignore it, like it was never there. ;) makes this easy for those of us without a reflow table. ;) good luck.

Just as an update:

The slim is a V4/V6 -- from the corona identification charts it looks i at least need to obtain a postfix adapter, a read/write kit and a 360ACE. The return on investment doesn't seem so good here :) Any thoughts?

I'll think about it and see if i can find the original TX QSBs available online (unfortunately, most of them that i found look like cheap knock offs). I just don't want to end up bricking the console. Right now, I can play games that don't require updates. Maybe I can sell it as-is on Craigslist.

Thanks as usual. Have a good weekend all.

The postfix is a must, but the Nand RW qsb isnt. Go do some reading at TeamX360.co.uk, and they have home made 4GB readers, you can make with a USB to MMC card reader. Digenx has done some good work, and they will actually support you if you use the Ace, where TX will not. You can use the same firmware with The DGX, and get support here, but those are extremely hard to find these days, as there is no use for them since the latest CB source was leaked a few years back, so they were discontinued. Basically a special CR3-Pro, but their were some changes to the board, and major changes to the firmware.

I ended up selling the console as-is. The ROI on it wasn't that good, so no harm. :) Thanks for the info though @gavin_darkglide.
