Hello Everyone,

My kids were playing our Xbox 360 Slim the other night, when a new dashboard update started downloading. I'm not sure what happened, but they said the Xbox shut off.

Now, when I try to power on my Xbox, I get the 'System Update Failed' message, and I cannot do anything or get to the dashboard.

I have tried updating via USB and CD, with no luck.

I used the hex trick and converted the error message into decimal, which gives me the update number, which is 17511. I downloaded this update, extracted and tried to manually load with no luck.

My controls sync with the Xbox fine, the Xbox light is green and seems normal, but for some reason it will not accept the update.

I tried the trick of holding down the sync button on boot also with no luck.

Is my Xbox done for? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The game that was in the system when the update started was Madden 16. I've tried putting it back in and letting it boot, with no luck. Same update error.

My USB was FAT32, and I put the '$System' folder directly on the root of the USB.

I was able to remove the additional 320Gb hard drive I had installed, then held the sync button while starting, and this presented me with an error about inserting the drive to continue the update. At this point I put in the USB and it attempted to update, got about half way then received the same 'System Update Failed' error.

Is it a 4GB corona, they have a nand failure rate that is higher then you would expect? If so, I would say it is a bad MMC chip, which would require soldering, dumping, in hopes you can pull the KV from it, and converting it to a 16MB nand, which is a pain(Involves moving tiny parts on the board, and installing a nand chip) all of that said, there are some great people on here with the tools to do a job like that.

Yes, it's a 4Gb model, with an added 320Gb drive installed.

I originally thought it was a Corona, but when I went to add my serial number to the Xbox registration for repair, it says I have a Trinity.

Either way, if it involves taking it apart or anything besides a simple software fix, I plan to toss it in hopes a One will deliver itself on Christmas :)
