Hi,

I recently received a broken xbox 360 slim from a friend with a red dot problem. I know this person and his soldering skill is decent and has successfully managed to rgh a few boxes in the past. He said he tried to read the nand but kept get an error in J-Runner stating he could not continue then when he turned his box on he got a red dot. I do not see any visible damage to the box and all of the surrounding resistors and caps appear to be fine. I will be posting pics soon. The box was working before he attempted to read the nand. Nothing really seems to be out of order. I would appreciate all the help.

Sorry I can't upload the pic immediately but I think. I found the issue there is a chip I think SoC on the mobo with the number 1877 #026 near the fan. On the left of it there a component which is mostly black and I think it says 10R0 in between two SMD components which I think are caps. I think that 10R0 stand for a resistor of 10 ohms. But I doubt it, it does not look like any resistor I have ever seen. Will post a pic of it but anyway it seems slightly shifted and out if place. Could that be causing the red dot?

What secondary error does it have? (you can get it as on Phats, Sync + Eject)

This xbox is very weird... when I attempt to try getting the secondary code it only blinks four lights once and it does not get past that. Oh and sorry about the multimeter, when I went to the store none of them were really good so I just decided to wait for it to come in the mail. This Monday is the 3rd week so it may come sometime during the 3rd week but most likely the week after.

EDIT: Pics are uploaded. Also, is the connector on the last image circled in red important?

I am checking the pics right now, that socket of the last picture is just for plugging into it a 4GB Memory, i have one if you want a pic but it's not important.

EDIT: If the secondary error doesn't appear, maybe it could be a Southbridge issue, make sure the case is touching the Sync button. The resistor you mentioned is a little out of it's place, i checked it and is a 10 ohms resistor, so if yours doesn't work, try to buy a new one.

Good luck with that box!

So I have been away from this xbox for a while because work got in the way but I am back now. Yesterday I was out of ideas so I was just cleaning the board with isopropyl alcohol in case there was some dirt or solder mess that I could not detect. I plugged the xbox in and for a few seconds it turned om woth a green light and the fan started to work. However, after the few seconds the xbox again stopped working. Now when I try it on I get the same red dot with no fan working as per usual. Does this indicate any particular issue? It wasn't the resistor I thought before. I checked with a multimeter and it had the right value.
