OK first I should say hi.

OK then I got a free xbox 360 with a phone deal a few mnths ago and I want to be able to play backups. So I read a load of forums yesterday and set about it. I followed the hacking the 360 for noobs guide and everthing seems to be going fine my 360 has been flashed with the xtreme 5.3 firmware using 5.3a i believe.

Now I want to start getting some games.

I could buy that PC Drive on ebay Samsung SH-D162C the going price seems to be arround £20 inc p+p. I'm going on a lookout today down my market etc to see if I can find the drive near me i.e lakeside essex.

THis seems to be the best method without taking a part the xbox everytime ?.

THe I'm going to need some +R DL Disks will any make do ?

EDITED - READ THE RULES!!!

Am I right in saying the Samsung SH-D162C is on it's way out or is possibly allready out so that only old stock may be available pushing up the price ?

Is the drive sata or atapi as I have a sata computer and so will have to buy a atapi/ide cable if need be ?

I read something about spoofing ot something to make the backups look like the real deal to microsoft do I need to do anything else than use xbox backup creater and my flashed xbox firmware to make things as safe as poss.

Drives: A DVD+R Double Layer burner that supports a Buffer Underrun Teck. PC DVD Samsung SH-D162C with Kreons modified firmware (PC DVD Drive)** Xbox 360 Samsung TS-H943A with Xtreme compatible firmware, v1, v2 or v3. Xbox 360 Hitachi GDR-3120L with Xtreme compatible firmware with OPA v2.1***

I ttok this staement from the xbox backup creater and this seems to sate that the only pc dvd that can be used is PC DVD Samsung SH-D162C but on the 360 for noobs guide it says The following drives can be purchased, installed in your PC, then flashed with one of Kreon’s alternate firmwares for reading Xbox 360 games.
SH-D162C
TS-H352C
SH-D163A
TS-H353A

Can someone help here if I can buy a sata drive that would be better as I have a sata computer ?. Or is it the Xbox Backup Creater Software only accepts PC DVD Samsung SH-D162C. ?

Xbox Backup Creator works with any drive that can read the game partitions, etc.. of a 360 game properly. It works with any of the kreon drives you listed above, as well as a samsung drive from your 360. Two of those drives you listed above are sata, so you most certainly can buy it and use it.

Thankyou for your help. I've decided I want the SH-D163A and have had no luck down the market today, seen it on google a few times. Would some reccommend me a UK Site that they have done businness with that can supply me with the following items quickly maybe next working day and at a good price:

SH-D163A
+R DL Disks I have a Maximum of £15 to spend on these.
Sata Cable

Recommendation for disks within this price range would be good I was thinking of Datawrite
