So my phat xbox 360 falcon wont boot with a dvd drive or hdd connected. it boots fine without either one but once I connect the sata cable from the drive and turn it on, the power light stays solid for about 5-8 seconds then starts flashing. the system will not boot. the drive and hdd are fine because I have tried another dvd drive on it and it does the same thing. I looked for bridged solder points and defective components but everything looked fine. It makes me believe that it could be something with the southbridge but im not sure. any insight to what might be preventing the 360 from booting when the drive is connected?

Did you attempt to install a coolrunner, because I had this problem with the first 360 console I ever did, and it ended up being the resistor next to the standby_clk point. so check to make sure you didnt burn the trace, or the resistor.

I did in fact use a cool runner on it to pull the CPU key. I will check when I get back to my barracks. Thanks for the advice! Hopefully that's the problem.

That's exactly the problem, that's why pics are important
