Work, always work
Holy crap, thesoul is right? Can you imagine all these modded boxes banned right off the bat? I wonder if it will drive the mod scene underground or if the XB Connect guys will just jump all over it? I'm thinking I might wait til it's out for a while (I mean, someone has to have time to do the R&D on the mods, right ;~D) to hedge my bets and to make sure M$ has the time to work all the kinks in the Boxes out. It'll be sweeeeet though.

this well established team that has provided us with so many mod chips are well more than capable of solving a pesky problem as always being on live these are the best people in the biz
ull probably have two chips one sitting on the onboard wireless router and another where ever they figure theyll need as long as linux an xbc are helping there will be a mod chip out after a couple months of the release

there's no way this thing is going to be moddable. Are you kidding me? If you read about what that MIT kid had to do to to exploit the tiniest of holes in the xbox architecture to create the whole mod scene, then you'll know that M$ isn't ABOUT to let us do this again. As smart as some of the guys here are, the only reason the XBOX is as moddable as it is is because they threw in the countermeasures as an afterthought. I know a kid up at MIT (no, I'm not saying its the guy who figured out how to patch onto a DDR memory bus) went to a lecture given by a lead design guy before the xbox came out, and he during the Q&A someone asked what was being done to prevent just what happened and it was obvious they hadn't yet thought about it. I will put solid money down that the 360 will have been created with an anti-modding stance as one of the core design principles. M$ may suck, but they're not STUPID

well... a big part of the success of the current xbox is the fact that it IS moddable...
imo a console stands or falls with it being moddable or not (look at the gc... (well, it took years for it to be modded SERIOUSLY))
donno... i think microsoft is going to lose a big market share if the x360 is totally impossible to mod. if i buy one, it'll be because i can run xbmc on it

If MS is so smart why do they have to keep releasing security fixes for their PC operating systems. Because their are people out there that are just as smart or smarter than the developers at microsoft. Its all ones and zeros and eventually someone will find a way. How much solid money do you have ??

On top of that... comparitivly, it is really hard to secure something and not as hard to break into something.

To say that M$ is so smart that they have thought of every way to lock down the 360 against modding is saying a whole lot.

To put is simpley... It's a lot easier to knock down a wall then it is to build one.

Microsoft benefitted from the xbox mod scene in the creation of the xbox 360 - that is obvious. If it is near impossible to hack, they will be losing out for next time round.

If you actually look at what M$ are doing with the 360, you can see that they are getting as much functionality from it as possible, so modding isn't required for everyone.
Streaming movies from a PC, or the HDD makes XBMC redundent. Remember the guys behind XBMC approched M$ for a partnership and got rejected, then M$ created the media extender.
Modding the 360 may only be required for playing backedup games, yet i believe that there is more likely to be a software hack due to the connectivity of the beast.
Time will tell.

sometimes i have to wonder if MS didn't get the modding scene stared on their own, as a way to see what consumers would want in the next console.

Well no, sony said theUMD on the PSP would take years for someone to read and extract the game, it happened in a few months

every console has been modded

also don't forget MS aren't good at keeping things under wraps CouGH!! Halo 2 and COUGH# Xbox 360

someone will leak the info eventually or they'll hack it from of the hardware kits sent out before the release

It will eventually be modded...but I wont be so quick to buy a mod-chip as soon as they come out. If I pay $299+ for the 360, I want to at least wait a couple mod-chip generations so I don't mess it up.

If you look at all the info you can see they are pushing all the games to be multi-player games, every game preview they tell you you can connect on xbox live and all that stuff even before they say if the game is good or not.

They just have to make a maximum of the content having to go through on-line services and that is the best protection they can have. Look at the PC scene, there is no real solution to playing online multi-player games than actually buying the game and getting a valid cd-key.

If out of the box the 360 can stream your media onto your speakers or TV it's a good part of the modchip's interest that is gone.

75%+ of the use I have for my Xbox is watching divx I got from the net on my TV.

No worries though, as soon as the Xecuter chip comes out for the 360 I will get one and I'm not buying a 360 before a proper modchip comes out.

Well let me just say
Where there's a will Xecuter will find A way
After all I seem to recall the PSP as being being "uncrackable" And if memory serves me right didn't somone at sony say it would be YEARS before "someone " could crack/read the PSP file structure? AND isn't the PSP ALSO "live Enabled"right outta the box?(so to speak)
My point is that all this speculation IS USELESS.....Lets wait for the release.....wait for team Xecuter to get thier hardware packages'''and then and only IF team Xecuter says "SORRY Can't do It" then we should start to worry

you misunderstand, metalgear. we know it will be cracked. its inevitable. we are just worried about a possible workaround to be able to still use LIVE.
