hi to the all forum users this is the first message of mine.

i am pretty newbie to xbox but gladly, after a short time in dilemma between xbox and ps2, finally decided on xbox and gave my order.

but before my crystal xbox comes I am planning to get my mod chip.

and after a brief search through the net surprisingly i have found out that X3 modchip doesnt work on xbox crystal?? I mean somebody claimed so.

here are the questions: is this true? anybody using X3 modchip with a late(i will get the crystal xbox around 15th december) or old version of xbox crystal? anybody having problems with X3 using with crystal xbox? if so or not which version is yours?
if this is true what version of xecuter chips will you advise?

no matter what chip I will use, i would like to use my xbox with every possible feature: playing mp3, divx, backup dvd, backup dvd games, using xbox live(with on/off switch i suppose),ftp connection, copying games to hdd drive etc.
any piece of information is appreciated. because as i said I am pretty newbie

you admit your a newb, so one work of advice, got to www.xbox-scene.com and read as much as possible, as well as all the stickies in these forums.

you can mod any box with the x3
the only thing you listed that has to do with a chip is ftp access, and on off switch. the rest are apps or dashboard features.

i repeat read a lot more before you post again.
this will allow less time wasted by all parties

Mine is fine, the only thing is that you may get bugs with the 1.6 excalibur video encoder (which if there are any more bugs will be sorted by Team X, you will just have to d/l a new bios)

Oh and you will have to do the 1.6 lpc rebuild.

If you are lucky and get the original crystal box (which came with 2 controllers) you will be fine 'cause its a 1.4 mobo which is easier to mod :D

V1.6 Xbox Crystal bought within the last week and the X3 works perfectly. Still haven't managed to use every function of the chip so far as there are so many.

Crystal Xbox here. Manufactured mid August, v1.6, I think. X3 working fine, no problems at all.

I have both versions of the crystal (1.4 + 1.6)
The 1.4 is far easier to install as it does not require LPC rebuild, the 1.6 was still easy just needed a bit more time and concerntration. If you are a noob to soldering then the 1.6 may be a bit hard and I would recomend getting someone to install for you.

Kreon drive?

Just wondering as i do not want to waste 30 bucks, this drive is capable of backing up with kreon? If i ordered it, would i need to install firmware on it, or is it ready to go?

Also, im pretty sure i have ixtreme 1.41 firmware as none of the newer game backups can play. I have a BenQ drive, so upgrading to ixtreme 1.5 is the best choice? And its been months, so i have almost no idea how to "reflash?". I've been reading about this jungleflash method. Do i need separate equipment besides my xbox 360/pc/sata card? And also, ive looked through the tutorials on this site but just curious as to if theres a better or simpler tutorial out there? Thanks

Re: Kreon drive?

Apparently using an Xbox drive (usually BenQ from what I see) and flashing it with the 0800 firmware is a better solution than the Kreon

Re: Kreon drive?

Newer hacked firmwares like 1.5 and above have a built-in 0800 firmware which allows you to rip original games onto your PC's hard drive. If you are planning to upgrade the ixtreme fw my guess is to go for the ixtreme 1.61.
If you need some great tutorials go to robinhoodplayground website. They have video tutorials for all drives.

Looks like no one gave you a straight answer, but rather a work around. But to answer your question, you have to find out from the person you're buying the drive from if it's already flashed. From the link you posted, it doesn't appear that it's already flashed. But you could always download the latest FW and flash the drive. It's really easy to do... download...execute...reboot.

As for reflashing, it's all covered in the Jungleflasher tutorial. It's pretty straight forward. Just download it.

Re: Kreon drive?

Okay. I've decided that i'll update to 1.61 firmware. So far i've gotten the jungleflasher 1.66b program, and the BenQ Ixtreme v1.61 firmware from xbins. This is all that's needed correct? Also, i watched a video and noticed that some switch was being used to connect the xbox dvd drive and pc while the 360 drive was going out halfway. Do i need to buy anything or am i all set? I'd like to avoid buying anything at the moment, so if 1.61 requires something to buy, would 1.51 not require anything?

Thanks

Re: Kreon drive?

yeah i say the xbox drive is best method as the kreons are now known to not rip new games properly.
I am assuming that switch was a connectivity kit. It would make sense you would need this as the 360 wont stay on long enough to power the drive probably for a full rip.
any firmware would need it as it is really just a easy method to power your drive from your pc instead of the 360.

You don't necessarily need the connectivity kit to flash your XBox.

How so? I've been ripping games with my Samsung drive just fine. Could you please explain what you mean so that I can verify my rips?

New games have angles that the current firmware doesnt recognize. There should be new firmware coming out but for now 0800 mode is recomended. I believe AC2 and MW2 have these angles confirmed so far. I dont have personal logs sorry but i know someonen does as i wouldnt spread this info without proof somwhere. I know a guy showed his abgx logs and it has the angles in them when he uses 0800 mode.

Re: Kreon drive?

yes it is called 0800 mode. You can also flash the 0800 firmware to your drive for permanent use as a backup drive.
this is when a connectivity kit comes in handy for power
