wait.. a xbox360 dvd drive can rip 360 games? like hook the 360 dvd drive to the pc and pop in a game. download it to your pc. huh?

yes just download the 0800 firmware then hook it up to your pc and rip away almost postive borderlands was SSV2 also

WOW so what kinda drive does it work on? i have a ms28 right now that has a f/w problem. and maybe ill be able to revive it. it only reads games as dvd... but the thing is. the hardware inside the drive is fine.laser motor etc. i tested it in another box to be sure it worked.

the xbox 360 was from someone else though cus the box had been open before. im wondering if someone has flashed it or something.i just tried hooking it up to my pc but the pc freezes. i think that's just because of my computer sucking so much =/

yeah i say the xbox drive is best method as the kreons are now known to not rip new games properly.
I am assuming that switch was a connectivity kit. It would make sense you would need this as the 360 wont stay on long enough to power the drive probably for a full rip.
any firmware would need it as it is really just a easy method to power your drive from your pc instead of the 360.

How so? I've been ripping games with my Samsung drive just fine. Could you please explain what you mean so that I can verify my rips?

New games have angles that the current firmware doesnt recognize. There should be new firmware coming out but for now 0800 mode is recomended. I believe AC2 and MW2 have these angles confirmed so far. I dont have personal logs sorry but i know someonen does as i wouldnt spread this info without proof somwhere. I know a guy showed his abgx logs and it has the angles in them when he uses 0800 mode.

Hey rvds619, thanks for the info. So will XBC produce an error with these types of games? Or will the game still rip, but with the angles missing? I'll try doing some research so I can know what to expect and so I can easily identify this information once a rip completes (prior to performing an abgx verification).

i believe it just doesnt show the angles but will still play. I am not even sure this has any real effect other then the copy is not exact and probably not safe to play online. as Asjb69 said and these are ssv2 games and i am sure you can find a list somewhere of those games. I dont know what the angles are even really but i know at the moment the 360 drives are safest.

Mkay i have some final questions...
Since i dont have a connectivity kit, i guess i'll use iprep. So iprep will be able to flash 1.61 just how i first flashed my xbox 360 with 1.41?

And to install the 0800 on the pc dvd drive... Does this make the dvd drive useless except for backing up? I mean will i still be able to use the pc drive with normal things(playing dvds, reading)?

Ok, i have decided to flash with jungleflasher and 1.61.
But, for some reason when my xbox 360 and pc are connected by sata cable, i don't get any video. I mean my monitor just blinks. Video is fine without the sata cable attached, im trying to figure out whats wrong now..?

Yeah i have a VIA sata card, not quite sure the model though. But i flashed my 360 fine with the same card with a different computer about 2 years ago.

And for me the monitor isn't the issue. I've hooked up a different monitor and still no signal. The computer is like, just not giving out any video signals. Ive checked the cables and everything. Argh how frustrating.

When are you plugging in the sata cable? Before you turn on your computer? Have you tried plugging in the cable once your computer is booted into Windows? Are you using the JungleFlasher PDF tutorial/guide?

Ah, i got some hard disk errors when i booted my computer, had some freezing, but managed to flash the drive successfully! I think what helped was plugging in the drive through sata when the computer was on, not quite sure though. The flashing was fluid and all successful. Backups play fine. I need to figure out now how to actually backup. I'll look into the 0800. And thanks for the help.


EDIT: Ok. Decided to order a Kreon drive. I feel its much, much safer and easier to backup than taking apart the xbox and connecting it to the computer(0800). So ill wait for the drive and see how it goes.

Microsoft has started using games with ssv2 in them. This means that there are additional angles in games. As of now, Kreon firmware cannot pickup these additional angles. However, drives flashed with 0800 can.

Hopefully there will be an update to the Kreon firmware soon to allow it to pickup this extra information. But for now, if you are looking to stay the safest, I would recommend only using 0800 drives for making your own backups.

Please note that I did read on page 4 of that thread that someone was able to rip MW2 using a Kreon drive and his log did show that SSV2 was also ripped. I'm not sure how. I'm still waiting for the guy to respond with the exact drive that he used.

I'm also trying to find a list of games that is using SSV2. I may have to re-rip some of my games. I'm just not sure which ones. Anyone have a link to a site or thread that shows such a list?

Oh hm, that is interesting. So..right now its not advised to back up with kreon. Is this to avoid being banned on xbox live? Or is backing up with kreon still ok for the people who dont have/use xbox live like me?

If you don't ever plan on playing your backups on XBL... you'll be ok. The game will still load. It just won't be safe to use on live.

i have a kreon drive and have not been banned on live yet and i play cod 4 and waw and gow 1,gow 2 all the time for the past 2 years and i have no problems with wave 4 games every game has worked without a fault i run all my games thru abgx
And i have not been banned i am using 1.61 now so i could play cod mw2 i play on live for about 2hrs a day.

Run it through abgx. In the Options tab, make sure you set the Verbosity Level to High. It should report back the SS Version number.

How i know about this ssv2 games. but i don't know how to play it? Any instructions in this aspect?
