I have a 1.6 box and recently took the motherboard, power supply everything out of the case and very stupidly put it down on a cloth table cloth for a couple of minutes, and put everything in a painted xbox. After connecting everything I tried turning it on and nothing. Wont turn on at all. So I checked all connections, they are fine, even switched out the front control panel. Still nothing. I Think static electricity from the table cloth ****ed up my motherboard. Any suggestions how to fix??? I cant think of any. If you think of anything let me know. I think I'm just out a box!

Dont Be a DUMBASS!!! Never put you motherboard on cloth!!!

No - there's something else wrong here.

I ALWAYS put removed motherboards onto a towel/cloth when working on them. It saves the surface from getting scratched and keeps it still.

Double check everything:

You only need the PSU and power/eject switch connected to test.

1. Is the power lead (from the mains socket) ok?
2. Have you connected the power/eject switch into the correct socket? Is the PSU connected to the motherboard?
3. Have you tried it back into the old case?

I have double checked everything. I put all the contents back in the original box. I made sure everything is in the right place and everything is connected securely. I have been using a multimeter to see if there is voltage on the board. I have been getting voltage in the range of 3 -5 volts on the control panel connection. This is not useful because I do not know what the voltages are supposed to be across which pins. Is there a diagram that shows this somewhere?? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

ESD doesn't have to be from the table cloth, it can be from you. Even if you don't feel it, you can transfer static to it and it is especially bad when you touch memory chips/cpus. People think the whole static wristband thing is overrated. you just may have learned otherwise

Plug the power supply in and with the mains connected, take a reading from position 6 on the LPC. If you get 5v, then the board is getting power. (Remember, on a 1.6 pin 6 has a permanent 5v supply!)

This will need to be done outside of the case, so please don't electrocute yourself!
