heya peepz,

just 'got' auto installer deluxe 2.11 final.
was just wondering, it says in the docs, talking about certain media working on certain xbox dvd drives. it mentions tweeked drives (as in pic below)
how the hell do ya do this 'tweeking'?
im really interested as it seems to be able accept more media than usual.

sorry if this has been asked before.

thanks heapz peepz

I'd say to check on the site you got the image from. Probably referring to adjusting the power output of the drive's laser, and is a delicate operation. Not sure if they have it listed on xbox-scene but you can probably find something if you google for it.

hi mate,

i have never personally tweaked a drive, due to no need to. From what I know the only really problematic drives were the old Phillips drives and thus sometimes required tweaking a bit. If you have one of the newer samsung or hitatchi drives you should not encounter a problem. I mean alot of drive problems do come down to media - if you are using dirty cheap unbranded media chance are you are more likely to encounter a problem - does not apply to just XBOX's in general cheap media are nothing but trouble. Not suggesting you have to go out and buy the really expensive Taiyo Yuden discs or anything. I have always been happy with a good Ritek dye based disc myself. read this post over at xbox scene - it will help in deciding which media to go for:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=336348

you are better off buying discs from an online store that specialises in media as they give you far better info as to what actual dye is used in the discs.

With regards to emulators, the xbox ones work just fine. I have not found a MAME rom i can't play yet. All of the XPORT emulators work really great. Go for it and give them a go you won't be disappointed.

Hope this helped?

I tweaked my Philips drive (new model from 1.6) as it wasn't reading DVD+RW as well as I wanted. It now performs better with backups.

Trust me - unless you know what you're doing, don't bother. There's more harm than good if you screw it up!
