Xbox games playing from HDD.. why did'nt MS think of this?

If XBOX games just checked what drive letter they where running from would
that not put a stop to playing games copied to HDD?

There would be a hack to spoof the xbox into thinking that the drive was really the cd drive!! If there is a will there is a way... Software can always bypass any issues like that!

They do - some games will not run from the HDD until they are 'patched'.

I haven't heard of any games that need patching to play. Which ones? Could you name a few?

Look in DVD2Xbox patches list. With each version they add more games it can auto-patch. The one that sticks in my mind is Leisure Suit Larry : Magna Cum Laude.

Others include:

Indy Car Series 2005(NTSC)
Indy Car Series 2005(PAL)
FightClub (PAL)
007 - Everything or Nothing
Australian Release of Rugby League
Riddick PAL

DVD2Xbox will also auto-scan for media-flags (which indicate the medium the game is loading from) and will adjust accordingly.

for those of us that still have a stock xbox hd, and store backup game files on computer hd's, how do you patch an xbe without using dvd2xbox....?
dvd2xbox really wouldnt work for me because of limited xbox hd space cause its taken up by my halo 2 stuff....

Some of the ISO tools like Craxtion will patch your xbes if they haven't been previously patched.

I normally use complex tools to backup my games, but I could not get kotor 2 to backup so I used dvd2xbox. So yes you should probably use dvd2xbox if you cant get it to backup.

You only need to patch if you'll be running the game from the Xbox HDD. If you're copying the game to DVD then it doesn't need the patch.

Where can i find these patches to download? my dvd2xbox doesnt have a patches list. where can it be found? and where can i download new patches? and also, can i burn an xbox game without FTP'ing anything?

1. Download the latest copy of DVD2Xbox.

2. Why not use FTP? You already have a computer, so the cost of setting up FTP is minimal!!

Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball could be added to this "patch list" that Martin C listed earlier in this thread.

AFAIK, GH Tournament Paintball requires a 3rd party xbe file to make it work. Therefore, it's not actually a 'patch'. Not unless DVD2XBox have added it to their ACL list....

I'm sure you can setup Network Shares with DVD2XBOX and when you want to dump a Game you can Select to dump it to the HDD or your PC's HDD
