1) Buy this:

2) Attach #1 to Xbox with this:

3) Profit.

really, Xbox does not have the capabilities of adding GPS hardware or drivers...

Dido..

And in dash DVD too.

If that is the end result that you are looking for, buy something that was meant to be used that way.

I can just see the nightly news report now.

Playing a game while driving (or even navigating through navigation screens with a XBOX controller) is probably worse than talking on a Cell phone, putting on makeup, eating a hamburger, or all of these at the same time.

Was the xbox meant to be able to back up games, put media center on there, and do all the other sh*t it can do? Didn't think so.

You can push the limits of anything, that doesn't mean that the end result will be any good. And I hope that you are a programmer, also, because the NavTech disks (there are others around as well) are not going to be as simple as you might think to get info off of.

I have had several in-car navigation systems, and not all of them have been top notch.

Just from that experience, I wouldn't guess the XBOX would make a great naviagation system, but whatever.

You go ahead and persue your dreams and let us all know how great it ends up.

Hell, build a bunch of them and make a fortune on the sales.

The point of modding is to exceed the expectations of your current hardware, so I am not knocking your idea at all. Just personally don't think it sounds like a good one.

Good luck to you.

Hmm ... how about taking NFS:U (Midtown Madness would be a better example), and hooking the GPS unit up as the controller. You race against the other cars on the real streets against virtual computer generated opponents (or XBL). Interesting idea ...

But seriously ... get an incar nav system. If you must home brew, make it PC based (yeah, I know the Xbox is just a PC ... but these systems need to be a little more open at the OS side to be practical in a car). Nothing stoppong you from sharing the output source though (think KVM, get a USB sharable verison, so you can use the Xbox controller as a USB device on the GPS PC as well).

i didn't ask you for your opinion, i asked if anyone knows where to start. It's obviously been done, and i'm going to do it. It's the point of doing more than anything.

The minute you post anything here, you are asking for an opinion.

If you've seen this type of mod before, and can find a reference, I am sure everyone will say "wow, thats kinda cool", but until then we remain skeptical.

In the mean time, here is something to get your panties in a bunch over...

Yeah, just get an in car navigation system, or try modding your xbox to do something better, like making toast. Oh, I forgot that's what ps2's do. Lol.

Well my dream system has always consisted of:

Getting rid of the deck completely
-installing the biggest lcd i can find into that area.
-installing two more lcd's on the back of the headrest each with two a/v inputs.
-Splitting main xbox video signal to all three screens and amp for all speakers.
- Then hooking up 2 more xbox's to each of the back lcd's and the audio would go to a headphone jack on the lcd or on the door console.
- Routing the ir receiver for the main xbox to the front somewhere.
- dont matter where all three xbox's are as long as u route the ir receiver and the controllers.

SO:
-When you start the car all screens come on all xbox's come on.
-All screens are on Video1 (main xbox) which you can watch movies/music on using the ir remote. listening through the main speakers.
-You press the input button on the screens on the headrests, they start displaying the other two xbox's. with headphones on, people in the back can listen to what ever music or movies they like using the contoller from under the seat of course.
-all the xbox's will be system linked for system link games of course.

when you think what you are getting for the price of 3moded xbox's and 3 lcd's its not a bad idea.

Even with one LCD in the front and one Xbox you will have a pretty good setup.

Who needs a deck? :p

But you are ruling out radio/gps using XBMC
