I have a WD 80gig thats full in my xbox and just got a WD 160gig replacement. What I want to do is transfer all the 80gig data over to the new 160gig one and then use the 80gig drive in my PC.

What options do I have? I know one is to use 2 xboxes to transfer the data but I dont have 2 boxes.

I tried installing the 80gig drive into my PC with the hope of transfering the data via FTP but the problem is the 80gig UNLOCKED slave drive is detected in windows xp device manager but cannot be read or populated.

Any help would be sweet.
Thanks

this would be a slow, gross option, but copying your 80 gigs to your standard PC drive, then FTPing back to the 160 when it's installed in your xbox.

Thanks for your reply mate. Is there anyway to have windows read the xbox drive? My standard pc drive only has 80gigs in it and not enough space to do that.

I'm not aware of it. Xbox uses a different file system, Fatx or something like that. It's not compatible.

Moddoc do you think this will work? Its looks like it can be used to clone my 80gig drive and then when im done can wipe the FATx so I can then format it for use in my PC.

In the current version of xboxhd you can :
1) Build a working HD from scratch. This is two-step procedure. First we
write the parition table. Afterwards we can continue formatting
the partition.
2) Rebuild C-drive. This will format the xbox HD's C-partition and
rebuild it - bringing it back to a virgin state.
*****3) Cloning an existing xbox HD onto a blank drive. Again hotwapping is OK.
4) Install an F-drive if you HDD is large enough - this is checked!
Note that the also get this option when building a HDD from scratch
using option 1).
5) Wipe an existing xbox fatx partition table. Intended for corrupted xbox
HD's that the user wants to rebuild from scratch.
6) Generate the unique hdd password needed to lock drives for the xbox.
Requires the eeprom.bin to be on the CD.
7) Make DOS floppy with HDD locking/unlocking tools

To start the tool type 'xboxhd' on the command-line. Hopefully the tool itself
is more or less self-explanatory.

I'm not sure. I've never used that app. I did a quick search and found this.

http://www.filesharingtalk.com/vb3/t81712-.html

about half way down there is a title:
Installing a New Harddrive

I skimmed over it, and it looks like it's for copying the orriginal, small Xbox DH (Put on a CD-R ISO) to the Large HD. If this is the case, you won't be able to fit the 80 GIG.

But as I said. I don't know the app. It might work.

note... I think this app was designed for soft-modders. it seems that all the advice given to people wo are using this, have soft-modded their xbox w/out a chip

Ok if I just forget about copying the data on the full 80gig drive and just install everything from scratch on the new 160gig.

Will partition magic be able to remove the fatx table and make the drive ntfs so windows/my computer will show it? Partition magic shows the drive as unallocated disk #2.

Windows can not read or populate it in device manager.

Yes I read that. In the end I just put the 80gig old xbox drive in my pc and used Partition Magic 8 to change the drive from Fatx-NTFS. Of course that wiped all the data but allowed me to use it on my pc now.

With the 160gig new xbox drive I am now spending 2-3 days installing 70 games, music and video lol.

I know this is very old thread but I am attempting this as well.

I have a 120GB that is full and gonna try to ghost it to my 200GB drive.
I've been succesfull in the past of ghosting a 120GB to indentical 120GB drive (my drive to a friends newly modded xbox) with my PC. All I did is kept his original C and E info from the 8GB drive and copied them over to the newly ghosted 120GB drive.

I'm just wondering if it's gonna work from a smaller drive to a bigger drive... I mean, the spare space, where will it be?!? I guess I will find out soon, like this week.

Will keep you all informed on how it goes.

Wish me luck ;)

I just upgraded from a 160 gig to a 300 gig. Ten hours and 17 beers later, I ftp to my computer and back to the xbox. All 100+ gig.:) Sooo.. get beer and get started.

If you don't have enogh total space available, do half, install new drive, ftp, erase and do it again.
