Xbox harddrive in PC

hey, I got a few xbox hard drives laying around i was going to intall them in my pc and format it to NTFS, to the PC it should matter if the hard drive is still locked right? or do i need to unlock it first, i already have one xbox drive in it but that one was already unlocked anyways, and i'd rather just find out for sure than go thought the time and effort of trial and error
