HI guy's ,

this is my first post here, i have been looking every place for help and hope one of you could help me. my problem is with my xbox harddrive. it finnaly went after making clicking sounds for about 3 weeks.

it has no waranty on it so i am stuck paying for repairs ,and figure i am better off doing the repair on my own. my question is can i just put in any harddrive in or do i need a special xbox drive. i have 2 harddrives i can use if you do not need special one. i have a 80gb western digital and a 120 gb samsung drive.

all i need to know is what i need to replace the drive. do i need a modchip or any software. if anyone could give me some advice on how to fix this it would mean alot.

thanks

You will definitely need a Modchip if you plan to use a PC HD.
The Xbox HD is "Married" with the motherboard it came with and so another Xbox drive will not work. With the Modchip you will be able to use those HD's you have and you will need Software such as Slayer's Auto Installer to format and install the original files.
Your other choice is to buy a Motherboard/HD combo off Ebay to replace your dead HD and Motherboard and sell your old Motherboard on Ebay to help recoup some of the cost, heck you might even make enough off the sell to recover your money and then some :D

You can use De-Solder Braid also called Wick if you have good solder skills
Best Thing to do if you have the LPC holes filled in is to do a solder install

I know that you bought a solderless adapter but a solder install in my experience has a more stable connection

Some Mod vendors will sell just the wire harness seperate
