Xbox IR Mods

I caouldn't find anything like this, and wanted to know if anyone else has tried this before...

Is it possible to take apart the MS DVD dongle, mount the IR eye in the X3 Control Panel and hard wire the dongle into a controller port? I like the idea of the XIR mod, but would like to be able to control more than just the power with it.

I just found the threads about hardwiring the MS dongle. The XIR mod one will only control the power, and I am looking for something that will actually allow me to use my DVD remote without having the dongle plugged in.

Anyone tried doing this and mounting the eye in the X3 Control Panel? Just curious if it will fit well behind the cutout.

Yes

Yes. I have hacked apart the MS ir recieving and it does fit in the x3cp. You have to cut the diode right off the IR's board which is easy and extent it using some wires. Works great I just did it last night.
