I read on the front page, that if you install the new harddrive, before you create a new xbox live account, you won't get banned, or you might have better chance of not being banned.

this is not entirely true, one of my friends, was banned after he put in a 120gig drive, and created an xbox live account

just wanted to add this, so people don't expect NOT to get banned by adding the harddrive first and coming to the forums whining about how tey were banned.

nope, he has 2 xboxes, and this was the brand new one, never had xbox live on any of them, and it happened

I'm just addingthis, because it can happen, he had never used live before, at all though

whatever dstar, god, if you have no input or know if it bans are not, don't answer with you remarks, I don't think anyone know fully what will get you banned or not.

and yes my friend did get banned, without a prior live account, lol, you think i come on this damn forum, and waste my time on this bullshit, just telling the facts, and to give a fair warning, that you can still get banned even if you put a large harddrive in and then install live.

I was just responding to what was said on the front page, but f**k it right, just let people keep getting banned by telling them they won't, I don't care, if they do or not, use xbconect

hey,
The only sure way not to get banned is switch to the original OEM hard drive. Make sure it's in factory condition with no added files.

That's what I do I have a dual hard drive setup and only go on Live with the original hard drive.

Not 100% true, my friend's upgraded HDD was married to his eeprom so when he put back in the stock drive he was banned. (and he had uninstalled the chip) How much does that suck. Stock Xbox gets banned.

I turned on auto login on the ms dash with the x3 chip off, and then 2 days later after being on live for months, I got banned. My own dumbass fault, I currently have 2 new eeproms, I am going to try one by making a new GT and keeping all my internals the same (HD, etc). If I get banned on that one with auto login off, i'll buy a new HD and sign up for a new account again, one way or another i'll be back on live.

Anyone think this is a sound theory ?

ya my opinion on XBL... well it sucks that they are banning peeps, and it seems to be very tricky to get around it. I see some of you have multiple boxes, or if you have a sibling/friend that has one, just put XBL on those (unmodded) and then you can enjoy your online gaming experience... I do not have XBL because I'm not as big on it as some are :)

Ok...This is prolly the dumbest question I have ever asked, but here goes... I know about the harddrive eeprom marriage thing, but can someone tell me exactly what an eeprom is? I have 3 xbox's at home right now that I'm working on and one is mine... The other 2 have never been on live before... Is there any way to take/get the eeprom out of the other xbox's and put them in mine? Again, I'm completely blind on this one!!!!

guys come on i mean they put it on the same news area so if you didn't already know

you can hack your orig hd (if you got a lil skill not much needed but a lil will work better than none) and then put your serial number from the orig on the new one i mean thats what they marry to the eeprom its just the serial number not the files or any other coding like your xbox files or anything i mean come on guys some times it just helps to read ALL of the days news and actually take the time to process it (for those that are a lil slower)

Whats wrong with 13 year old kids? I was one once....Dont underestimate peoples ability just on age!

Anyway, and eeprom is an erasable, programmable, read only memory chip. It is just that...a chip.. some you can write to once only (A PROM) but others can be erased and re-writen to .... The BIOS on many PC's and laptops are stored on these.. Hope this helps.

Ok here my deal. I modded my xbox a long time ago with the X3, put a new Hitachi 250 GB HDD and then got XBL (never logged in XBL before). Halo 2 has worked all since it came out up until this week--no problem. My friend HAS played on XBL with his stock Xbox. Then he wanted to modded with X3--I warned him about getting banned. We modded his box, replaced the hard drive, and put a "fresh" C drive (one without any XBL updates or anything). Then he put his account on MY Xbox so that when we booted his modded Xbox up for the first time (mod disabled) we could do an Account Recovery and it might look to XBL like it was legit. So we did. And it worked! For one night. He got banned. So the next night after he's banned I try and get on since we did his Xbox and I'm banned! My Xbox had nothing to do with that except for his account WAS on my Xbox. So there was a massive banning in the past couple of days? ALSO: On the front page it talks about hacking your hard drive serial or whatever and matching your stock. Does this show that you have 10 GB or something or does it just show XBL that you have a stock hard drive even though you don't? Thanks

from the looks of that news post it suggests hacking your hdd serial number. it doesn't, however, say that anyone knows how to do that.

ok, who cares if anyone gets banned, personally I don't, so just let it go already, I was just making a point, if you don't care fine, if you do great.

i'm currently in the market of buying an xbox. but i want an xbox so i can play live with my friends AND because of what my friend has been able to do with his xecuter mod chip. so basically here's my question (since i'm still trying to comprehend all of this)

if i buy an xbox, get a modchip, install the modchip and a new hard drive, get an xbox live account. will i get banned if i have the mod chip off? like, if there's even a chance, then i want to be aware of that. what's the deal with changing the serial number in the system? anybody know of how we could do something like this?

this information would be very helpful for me to make a final decision about modifying my xbox.

thanks guys.
