As long as you boot to xboxlive from the factory dash only (i.e. hold power button longer (red x3 logo on front)), and play games from disc and not HD you should be cool ... I play halo 2 this way for two weeks and I have not been banned yet. MS is supposedly only trying to keep people from usin cheats on Live. Not as concerned about other mods.

well actually they've been getting pretty strict about xbl banning since halo2 came out. check xbox-scene.com and no more than 10 topics down and you'll see some important info bout live banning...ok ok il post a quote here.

More Information About New Xbox LIVE Ban System
>> Angerwound sent us new information about the new Xbox LIVE banning system.
Apparently Microsoft is now only banning the HDD-Key and not the Serial Number/Mac Address of the EEprom as before. This means that you do not need a whole new EEprom to get unbanned, but only a valid and non-banned HDD-Key.

So if your Xbox got banned you can unban it by unlocking your HD, change the HDD-Key in your EEprom (using configmagic or other EEprom tools) with a unbanned one from another EEprom (you can't just use a random key - it must be a valid one from a retail box), then just relock your HD and your Xbox will be unbanned. Even using an old banned EEprom and change it with an unbanned HDD-Key, will allow you to connect on LIVE. This has been tested for over a week and the xbox is still not banned. The box in question has been banned several times before as well as had it's live account terminated. Angerwound even tested it by putting random information on all other paramaters except the HDD-Key and it connected fine on LIVE.

This could have a great deal to do with why people are randomly getting banned now.
They had previously been using a valid serial number/Mac address but now the authentication servers do not want to validate their HDD Key.

The above information tells you how to get unbanned, but if you don't change anything to your setup it's likely you'll get banned again of course. At this moment we don't know yet what MS is all checking to ban an Xbox...
However, they are probably checking several things on the HD. So best thing you can do is to use your MS retail and untouched (no homebrew/hacked files) HD (don't forget to also unlock with old key/relock it with the new key) only to connect on LIVE.

If I have evox and X3 on my system, wil xbox live get pissed off?
Short answer: We don't know.

Less-short answer: If you use the chip, and log into live, YES. If the chip is off.... we don't know. Use at your own risk. It depends on what you've done to your system and what M$ is checking today. It's up in the air at this point. If you want to be 100% safe, don't use XBL on a modded console. But... some people are getting banned and some aren't. There's lots of info on the xbox forums if you want to take your chances.

I have been playing on xbox live with my modded xbox with a 200gb hdd for almost 2 years now and i havent gottin banned yet (except one time i had a faulty 2.3 lite switch which stayed to enabled unless you switched to bank2). Recently i was worried about being banned but i havent.

From the way i see it, ever since the newest live updates these past few months, if you have upgraded your hdd after they first started looking at hdd-key numbers (logging onto live before im saying) then you will proabbly be banned because it does not see a match between that key and the settings in the EEPROM.

If you were banned by this then what you would do is unlock hdd, edit hdd-key settings from within config magic final with a new eeprom from a unbanned xbox, relock hdd. Then you SHOULD be able to log back into live unbanned.

lets say you upgraded your hdd way before these xbox live updates ocured than you should be alright like me.

though im not positive on anything here...

Okay. So everything else into account, I just have to make sure the X3 is turned off? How do I do it, and will evox freak out when it doesn't see a modchip when booting?

turn mod off by holding power button for about a second untill you see the flubber animation to come on. You will notice that the xecuter logo will glow red instead of blue. Red means that its disabled, blue means enabled. Evox wont "freak out" because it just wont load. Booting to Stock bios = Stock xbox features.

What else do I need to know to make sure I'm safe on xbox live with Halo 2?

With a 200gig replacement drive in a system that has never connected to xbox live.

Does LIVE check for things like evox on my HD or what? What is safe and what isn't?

XL will be able to detect if the drive is bigger than it should be, it will just take a while for them to catch. The best way is to have the x3 disabled and the original HD in.

I was just banned today. When I logged on for the first time yesterday, I had to download an update. I think thats when I got screwed. Im running a X3 with a 250gb hard drive on a v1.0 xbox. I had the chip disabled the whole time. I would recommend not playing XB live for a while until they figure out exactly what MS is looking for on our xboxes that is getting people banned.

Get off his ass dude..

I agree to use the search button but dont keep going on about it.

Computertrendy, supposedly you get banned if you install a new HardDrive AFTER youve signed up for XBL on that Xbox.. We still dont know all the details.

Need help with 0003 error

I've been trying to repair an xbox for the last 4 weeks and all I get is 0003 error. I understand that the console isn't getting enough clean power, but how do I fix it?

Re: Need help with 0003 error

take the heat sinks off, and plug it in and see if you still get error 0003

you should get 0023 or some kind of overheating error instead.... if you still
get 0003 then you've got bad filter caps or a shorted component...... if it
away with the heat sinks off then your gpu heat sink is shorting to a
component under the heatsink.
