First, I read the Notice and I spent some time searching the forum with no luck. If this has been mentioned somewhere I'm truly truly sorry as I did search and didn't see it.

I recently flashed my Liteon drive using the following:

CK3 mini
Probe 3
VIA6421

I used the iHas124B(flashed with proper firmware) and Verbatim DL from Singapore.

Before flashing my drive I updated to Dashboard 2.0.14719.0.

After flashing I confirmed that I can successfully run backups.

I did not have an active Xbox Live account. I ordered a 12 month Gold Membership. I went to enter the code today and as soon as I click on, connect to Xbox Live, from the main dashboard it automatically starts downloading an update without asking me. I quickly powered off the system before the update completed and it did NOT install an update when it restarted. I checked the system info again to confirm it has the latest version and it does have 2.0.14719.0.

I then went to test my connection to see if it asks if I want to update as it does if you test your xbox connnection. It did NOT ask to update or try to update, which makes me believe I am on the latest dashboard(along with the fact that my dash is 2.0.14719.0 which from all my searches is most up to date dash).

My questions are, why is it automatically trying to update as soon as I click to connect to Live?

What do I need to do to ensure I do not get banned after I've taken all precautions thus far?

Are the updates when connecting to Live for the first time in a long time(maybe ever on this particular machine????) different from the dashboard updates and are they safe to update with flashed firmware?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post! If I left out anything that is needed, please let me know. I hope this is in the correct place.

maybe you have a dodgy remote or finger lol and to answer your other question you can tell what update it is just by reading what it says eg game update or system update. If you have CFW on your drive do not update unless you see it posted here or go back to stock and update either one.

It's probably the update for the new APPS such as Facebook, YouTube, NetFLix, etc, etc...If you're already updated to 14719 you're good to go.

When you say I may have a dodgy remote or finger that I may have accidently selected "OK" or I may have a dodgy remote that done it for me, I've now done this 5-6 times and each time it automatically attempts to update(at which time I quickly power off the machine). I can't see how that could explain the automatic update everytime when I'm carefully reading what it's saying, but I may be misunderstanding something.

Ok, so I done it again and it does not say what type of update. (I powered off machine before update completed or really even got started).

It simply says(exact wording) "Downloading Updates. Please Wait"

Nothing more and nothing less.

I'm not sure if this particular Xbox has ever been connected to Live(owned multiple consoles and it's been awhile).

Also, if I am on update 2.0.14719.0 and it doesn't try to update when I test my connection shouldn't all system updates be performed?

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding what you mean by "it says what kind of update it is".

Thanks for the help!

Again, if you have updated with USB and you didn't have a hard drive plugged in during the update it's an update for Applications such as Netflix, Facebook, Zune, etc.

I didn't update from USB and I do not have a HD. I was going to order one when ordering all my stuff to flash but they were sold out and mine did not originally come with a HD.

Maybe I should explain the process of how I updated a little more(you mention a USB, does it matter?). I stopped playing Xbox for a decent period of time while I accepted a promotion at work.

I just recently used this machine again, at which time it wasn't hooked up to the Internet. I can't be sure, but this particular Xbox may not have ever been connected to Live(pretty sure it was never connected to Gold).

Since I hadn't had it connected for a long time before flashing, I performed multiple updates through the Xbox directly. The way I performed the updates was by going to system info and selecting to test my connection. It would then ask if I wanted to update. Since I wanted to get to the latest version, I updated multiple times(like 5-6 times until A: it wouldn't update any longer when testing my connection and B: it showed the latest 2.0.14719.0).

If I never had it connected is it possible this update is the auto update I've read about? Or would it not be if I'm already on version 2.0.14719.0?

Admittedly I'm a noob on the xbox(I've modded other systems in the past and work on PC's). I just want to be sure I'm all set.

Is this a legit statement? If I'm on version 2.0.14719.0 regardless of my method of updating then this update is safe for me to perform and it's not possible it's the auto update from year/s ago that I read about(not sure if this info is even legit?).

Sorry for all the questions, just want to be sure I'm taken all precautions.

EDIT: Oh and thanks for the quick response. I really appreciate the help!

Xbox 360 Dash Update 2.0.14719.0 Rolling Out

Hot on the heels of the Valentine's Day update just a little over a week ago, Microsoft is now rolling out yet another SystemUpdate, this time bringing the dash/kernel version to 2.0.14719.0. No indication yet as to what changes it brings, but as usual if you're using c4eva's fw, it's recommended that you wait to update until he's had a chance to generate and analyze a set of LIVE Logs with the new dash.

source: c4evaspeaks.com

please, if c4eva is in holiday, there is this rumor going around that UBERGEEK had deemed this dash to be safe, so please admin confirm to all these people who are confused and are waiting.

many thanks!!!
