I backed up 2 of my games yesterday with a stock hard-drive, X3CL, a PC, cross-over cable, a copy of Xboxripper V1.0.3. (installed on the PC), a copy of Quix (on PC) and Copy of FXP (on PC)

Link the PC to Xbox with cross-over cable, fire up the x-box into X3CL (press white button when booting up), Stick the game to be backed up in and then launch Xbox Ripper (make sure the IP address is changed to the one showing on Xbox and the user name and password is set to x3), Click Retrieve and then RIP. It copys all the files to a location on your PC, but not in a format that the Xbox will recognise. You then need to convert it to an ISO file using Quix. Then just "BURN AN IMAGE" to your DVD using NERO. Sorted.

XboxRipper says it will burn the disc to but it wouldn't recognise any of my DVD-R's.

One last thing, after each rip, if you only have a stock HD, you may need to FXP into your X/Box and delete the duplicate game files that have also saved to your xbox D drive (they are not in a useable format anyway).

Hope this makes sense..Pretty easy when you do it yourself.

Actually.... Modding an xbox IS legal. The xbox is yours to own once you purchase it. I can take it apart... I can crazy glue marshmellows to it... I can spraypaint "Microshit" ALL over it, I can piss on it if I feel like it. The hardware is mine.

Installing an X3 is PERFECTLY legal. Installing a hacked bios... copying games I do not legally own... is not. So next time you say to grow up... At least know your facts.

I gave you a link to a page with easy tutorials. If you can't work a search button... read some stickies... or goto the page and look at the tutorials... You shouldn't try something so "complex" as backing up a game. And if your going to be here suggesting your going to copy them, and expect help... Trust me, You're more likelly to get banned... as the forum does NOT support piracy.

People get annoyed by people asking stupid questions - However they still try to help out, like my previous post. But if all you di is complain... Then don't expect any help, next question you may have. Dont you want the warm fuzzy feeling, of not having everything handed out to you in a "mommy write me directions" Kind of way? Do some research.

Just getting back to original discs,

I always thought that the reason a PC could not read an Xbox disc (it just shows a video telling you to put it in an Xbox) - was because all Xbox game discs were duel layerd, and the second layer was in a format that could not be read by standard pc dvd roms.

so what is the real reason why a PC DVD rom cant read a game disc.

To have this bypassed you have to either flash the firmware or write a program to convert the unreadable xbe's to a readable exe.
Yes but only so it can read the file format surly ? There are loads of files on a game disc and they arnt all .xbe's

You know, I understand that some people search the forums, even read stickys and tutorials and still need to ask simple questions. Often it's just that they don't know the "mod" language and need a few simple definitions and pointers and then they clue in. This isn't >HARD< but it also isn't >EASY<. It takes some thought and effort.

I don't understand people who are willing to rip apart their xbox and do all the modding without knowing exactly what that is and all about it. I WANT to read 238 posts so I understand exactly what's going on. After all. I'm putting $400-$500 (CDN, sorry) into a fully modded box, and I don't know about you, but it's not coffee money.

What I don't understand is:
if i type hard drive i want the answer, i dont want to look through 238 plus pages for each search i do.
An attitude of pissy expectation that everyone should drop everything just to answer someone's questions that doesn't seem to want to make any effort on their own.

Simply: WE DO WANT YOU TO LOOK THROUGH 238 PLUS PAGES so we don't have to read 238 PLUS expectations "all about me and my problems" questions. If you want us to give our time to your problem, please also put in your time to ours.

Sorry. asphalt irritated me. You'll notice how often I rant.
