"XBOX needs servicing" with Xecuter 2.6 set to off

Hi,

I recenetly installed xecuter 2.6 in my brothers XBox. Everything went quite well... Updated the bios to the 4983 version, and followed the guide to get Evox installed as the default dashboard.

However, now if I boot the XBox with the chip switched off, I get the.. "Your xbox needs servicing" message.

Any ideas?

Also I am still unable to play Region 1 (US) DVD's in this Region 2 (UK) XBox. If from the dash I select "Launch DVD"... the logo comes up then goes back to the dash, then logo, then dash (repeat x as long as you feel like waiting).

So far as I could tell when I took it apart, it is a version 1.1 Xbox, with a Phillips DVD drive.

I just noticed... if I boot the Xbox with a game already in the drive, with the mod chip off, the game boots fine.

Reload the dashboard using slayers, you will be fine then.

Sorry - Im really new to xbox. Can you be a bit more specific? I have loaded on to the xbox the EvoX dash board, and renamed the existing "xboxdash" to "msxboxdash" (I think those were the names).

Do I have to make sure the original is always called "xboxdash" to ensure it will boot with the mod-chip off?

Slightly off topic - but still....

This "Slayers" thing... after reading about it - it might be perfect for what I would like to do anyway. I have a spare 120gb disk which I would like to install eventually. Will it take care of all the partitioning etc for me?

Do not rename any xbe files on the Xbox. That hasn't been needed for a long time. You can setup the boot order in the bios. I would recommend getting X2 5032, since 4983 cannot be edited.

Yes, Slayer's will format the drive and install dashboards.

the problem is that he doesnt have the d0 in and he is missing a pin(if you have the xapter one spring is stuch) that was my problem i got the same thing when I first installed mine
