My project is simple and I hope it will turn out cool enough to make me proud.
I realized that the Xbox One case is too big for its internals so after a quick reserach I got an idea - I'm going to install a Hitachi Travelstar 7K1000 (2,5', 1TB, 7200rpm) through a SATA 3 to USB 3 converter inside the console... Next to the blu-ray drive and the original hdd. The USB drives perform better than the original drives and since there's enough room, it seemed like a logical decision. I was raised on the original Xbox scene and coming back to some hardware modding makes me excited.
Let me know what you think of this upgrade ;).

I opened the console and found out that there's so much room there that you could fit many hard drives, lol. You can even stack an extra drive directly on the original one and still close the case without issues.

I've been considering getting an SSD drive now actually. After seeing shorter loading times I think it's a qute realistic improvement that you can feel on a daily basis. I mean - who plays 20-40 games at all time anyway? 5-8 games that load much faster may be the better choice.

I just need to figure out the USB 3. layout on the motherboard as I'm gonna solder the wires directly to the mobo. Anyone?

So finding the room for the new hdd was a no brainer. I stuck it with some double sided tape on top of the original drive leaving some space in between the drives to avoid direct contact. Heat shouldn't be a problem even with the 7200rpm drive, as the original drive is a small 7mm, 5400rpm. The metal top casing didn't cause any significant issues with an extra cable. I only had to break a tiny piece of the back of the plastic case at the back to allow the cable outside of the console. Simple mod, works well for me.
