Xbox original executer error 09

hi there! i recently got an xbox original with xcuter mod chip and case mod.
boots up! but after a partial boot it says it has Error 09 (replace hard drive? i believe?)

i have no original data from this machine. but i do have quite a few spare hard drives i can throw in.
i also have a semi working original xbox (i was going to soft mod it until i found this xcuter box) - it can be used for parts if needed.

any suggestions?

do i just throw in a new hard drive?
do i need to attempt to copy anything off the old / potentially bad hard drive?

from what ive read so far you need to download hexen.iso and burn it to a disc and you should be able to set up the new hdd with that. not sure but i would start there, you need to make sure your drive is compatible HERE and you can download the hexen iso HERE... but ill go ahead and warn you it a little over 1 gig so it may take a while.

Thank you very much. I will work on it tonight and tomorrow. I opened the case and found it does not have a hard drive. The two spare drives I have are listed as compatible.

Hexen iso = So.. sort of worked. :) more to do for sure.
Initially, the DVD would not boot. I found out my hard drive was NOT set to "cable select" and changing that fixed it.

i used the tools on the DVD (hexen) to format and set up the hard drive. works well! ...but...
Error 13,14 and 21 (13 and 14 = no dash installed i believe. 21 = rebooted from an error i believe.)

so.... now i need to find out how to find and get the dash files over.

i am downloading the slayer iso now. i will try that as i have no idea what it contains.
brb soon!

update : downloaded slayer, read its pdf. it might do the whole enchilada! i need to get a DVD, i am out.

My results so far:

hexen ISO worked, but i didn't understand what else i needed to do to fix the dashboard.
Slayer worked and fixed the dashboard as i wanted it to (xbmc as primary)

The xcuter dashboard on this xbox wants to be the main dash, i have to tell it "reboot to dashboard"to see the default dashboard (set to xbmc).

the xbmc on both hexen ISO and slayer ISO is really old.(slayers older than hexen) i removed the had drive and am copying over the latest xvmc4xbox files now. (The reason I removed the hard drive is that I can only delete with ftp, it won't allow me to upload.)

i will post with results soon.

Update:



this is the xbox i have.
i have no idea what all the buttons do! i have added a new HD (got it working with hexen and slayer) but i am still missing the mark.
in the end i want it to boot the most recent "confluence" themed XBMC. right now it boots to xcutor dash first. and its XBMC is really old.
Plus (i read about this and didn't see answers in the forums) if i FTP to it. i can delete files/folders, but i can NOT upload! sniffle..

so... what do the buttons do? :)
how do i fix the ftp issue (not allowed to upload)
how do i force this bugger to boot straight to XBMC instead of the xcutor dash? (i got an error 5, i think locking the disk will solve this, i will try tonight)

what a fun and challenging project! i love old tech stuff..

yeah right on man i bet it is fun! I myself have never done one but im sure there are people here that have. I did a bit of reading into it and came up with hexen because it looked versatile. evertonman probably knows more about it than i do, but you will most likely get it sorted by google. just try to sum your question up as best you can and search with google or whatever search engine you prefer and eventually you will figure it out. have you checked the jumper settings on the hdd (slave/master)? may be worth checking into, unless that is what you mean by cable select... im not very familiar with dinosaur ide hdd....:confused:

You can download the more upto date XBMC from their website,then FTP into your Xbox ( i use FlashFXP for doing this ) if your connecting the xbox directly too your computer,then your going to need a crossover cable,otherwise just plug the console into your router with a normal ethernet cable.
Delete the old version of XBMC,restart your console,then FTP back into it,then transfer the newer version of XBMC into the folder that the older version was in.Job done,m8ty :)

BTW once you have the newer version of XBMC ftp'd over onto your HDD.Use the Slayers disc too change which dashboard you want your Xbox to boot up too.E.G XBMC or EvoX dashboard.
If your having connection problems trying to ftp from & too your Xbox,make sure your using a crossover cable for direct Xbox to PC connection or use a normal ethernet cable if your connecting the Xbox via your router

evertonman67 : the xbox is on my router, and i can ftp to it (filezilla) i can do everything exept upload. :-(
I haven't tried moving the files over via usb stick yet.

check this out... i got this modded Xbox from a recycling center. they wanted 20.00 (cheap!) but i convinced them that it needs some work (it does) as it had an error (error 14 i believe - no hard drive was in it!!)
so i paid 10.00 !!! all cables included.

Ablegepu : NICE video. thanks for posting that. i feel like i have a work of art now :). I did find out my drive was not locked, and initially it was not on cable select. sorted that out. all that is left is forcing it to boot to xbmc instead of the x3 bois screen, and updating xbmc to at least support confluence.

After this beast, i will tackle softmodding my other stock xbox for the same purpose.

double news. good and bad :)

i got XBMC happy on this xbox, (not the updated xvmc and skin i want) but running on my network.
-I found the xcuter bios had an option to make the xcuter menu NOT the default menu, but the regular home menu..
-then i told it also to use xbmc as the home menu..

but.. that killed it. i can only boot the xbox in to non modded mode, or xcuter bios for flashing via cd, hdd or ftp.

so, until i can get it to boot from the dvd, i am toast :-(

I got the box running again. I use AID mostly, but I use slayer as a ftp boot disk.

for the life of me, I can't upgrade the xmbc on this box. Both slayer and AID's xmbc install is really old. Every time I delete the folder and upload the latest xbmc for Xbox, it just sits there, black screen and the hard drive flying away. I deleted files as the xbmc for Xbox instructions say to.. (Some user files, and other files on the e drive) No luck.

I will ill keep posting as I get results.
perhaps my xbmc (torrented) is bad?

Ahhhh. Got it the way I want.


I finaly found a funtional compile of xbmc4xbox 3.5
the best advice I read for installing / upgrading xbmc was here:

basicly, never overwrite your xbmc, but instead rename your new install (xbmc1 for example) ftp it over, and use the current xbmc or dvd boot file manager to launch it... This gives you a chance to see if the program works as expected. this is very handy if your using xbmc as your home launcher.

i am a happy camper!

Next on the list, get it to list my smb shared video folder as its movie folder, so it scrapes it.. If that's possible :)
