Hi,

I recently modded my xbox and would like to back up the harddrive before doing any other changes. However, when I try to back up the C: Drive, it transfers some files to the PC - then freezes.

The sequence of events is : - the ftp changes to ASCII mode and then the transfer freezes on the PC. Occasionally it freezes Avalaunch on the Xbox as well. I have to restart both FLashFTP and the XBox. I have tried to force the transfer to be in BINARY but the problem still occurs (i.e., transfer to ASCII mode and then freezes).

I know I have the network settings correct because I can connect to the XBOX from the PC and transfer from the PC to the xbox using FlashFTP.

Background information on my system is as follows:i have xbox ver 1.3, Xecuter 2.3bpro chip/Xaptr3R, and I am using theAvalaunch Dashboard (Xmas 04 version).

Has anyone had similar problems or any suggestions to overcome the problem ?

Thanks

MCP

Mine was freezing after about 60 seconds on FTP transfers, using FlashFXP. The only thing to do was to reboot the xbox. Now I'm using wincommander for ftp and all works great.

SO: change the FTP client on your computer. Try a couple until you get one working. I think it's got something to do with active/passive, noop and all those settings, but didn't bothered to check afterwards, just got wincommander out of the box and it's ok now. Besides, if the nagging press 1, 2, or 3 at the beginning doesn't bother you too much, you can use it forever without registering ;)

This is an issue with SP2 and burstmode ftp. Please use c-xbox tool for transfers, you will not regret it as it works with burstmode ftp and with avalauch (10 meg/s transfers).

well, i had this issue, and i found that making sure the hd was unlocked stopped this from happening, although i was able transfer successfully with a locked hd....

Instead of using an ftp client, You can also Ftp directly from a web browser!

ftp://xbox:"password"@"xbox ip":21

and if Flashfxp keeps giving you a problem. Try another ftp Client like EmFTP

Regardless read the topic right below this one and follow Floppy Mohawks links.

Hi,

Sorry for not replying earlier - but my ISP had some problems that weren't cleared up until today.

Yes, I seem to have made a mistake with the client name - it is flashfxp.

I do have a Firewall and Anti-virus but I had tried to ftp without success when both were turned off.

I had read the posting following this one, and other ones on ftp before I submitted to the forum. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one that had similar problems as mine.

Thanks to everyone for all the responses. I will definitely try the alternate FTP clients suggested. I will let you know the result.

Thanks again.

M.
