Xbox plays movie DVD's and music but won't play a game.

This is kinda a two part question -

I have an Xbox thats not modded that I picked up cheap. The problem it has is that it won't play game disks - you get the "this disk is not recognized" error, but it will play audio CD's and movie DVD's all day long. Has anyone come across this? It has a phillips drive. I'm assuming that the drive is toast since I tried another board with this drive and I get the same results.

Also, since I have to buy a dvd drive for this xbox - how good are the modified Samsung 616T drives. People claim it will play backup disks without a mod chip. Is this true? Would it be safe to play a backup disk on Xbox live using this drive?

People Lie M$ Signs The Game Disks So Unless You Have That Sig On The Disk It Won't Work

Play backup games on xbox live and you will get banned. You can get a new DVD drive from ebay.
