Even when my Xbox has been turned off for a few hours the bottom of the case is still warm right underneath the power supply. It stays warm until I unplug the box. Can anyone give insight as to what's going on? I hope it's not about to explode.

A brand new Xbox I just purchased last week (which turned out to be a 1.4... don't know how that happened) doesn't act the same way. When this Xbox is turned off everything cools down.

tweak
Xbox v1.6 and v1.4

if it blows.
I wouldn't wait till then, if you're Power Supply blasts, chances are that your Motherboard will go with it. And if you have a bigger HDD on that board and its locked, your HDD is prety much trash too. I would buy another power supply, then between the two, compare and contrast.

I may be mistaken but might this problem be related to the power cord replacement program that M$ initiated? Is your power cord warm at all when the case is warm?

Wasn't it the power cord connector's solder connections to the PCB on the PSU the problem? Not the cord itself.

Shortacid is exactly correct. Microsoft lied to it's millions of customers, because they didn't want to have to pay for the recall of 5 million XBoxes, despite them being true fire hazards. I'm just waiting for the news report when I hear a house fire that killed four people was traced back to a bad PSU in a 1.1 XBox. That company is nothing but crooks, a deserves to be treated as such. I'm never, ever buying another one of their products again.

As far as your XBox goes, tweaker_b, don't worry about it. My XBox has been like this for a very long time (since I got it) and it has never caused a problem. I even went in and repaired what MS should have done, but it doesn't make a difference. SO: don't worry. This is normal for some XBoxes. Mine still runs nice and toasty on the mobo and cpu.

Whoops! I mean, "nice and cool" on the mobo and cpu temps... not toasty... :)
