I have an Xbox Slim 4gig which had it's liteon 9504 dvd drive replaced by a LiteOn 78450c! I found out that early when these came out since they couldn't b flashed, there was a tutorial where it involved cutting through the 9504 case, replacing the PCB with a 78450c model and have the laser replaced too.

Now the problem is, without knowing what this xbox had inside, i tried to update for the new dash and it's giving me the usual system update error since it cannot find the proper dvd drive to flash.

All i want to know is; how can I know what 9504 version this xbox had before it was modded? Was it the 9504 or the mislabled 9504 that was actually an 0225 inside?

In other words, was this 78450c replacement method used to replace 9504 or 9504 mislabled ?? Since I need to buy an proper 9504 and want to know what model I had before.

I already own a mislabled 9504 showing as 0225 unlocked, but I saw there is now way to flash the key into this model. I am able to flash the firmware but the key can only be erased and no KEY.bin was able to be flashed. (am I right or doing something wrong?) Would I be able to flash the key if it was a proper 9504 model? ( not the mislabled one)

Or does it matter if it was mislabled or not...would my mislabled 9504 work if I am able to flash the key if possible?

If you can flash it it doesn't matter if it was mislabeled or not. Do you have the key for the drive you tried to update if not you might have to rgh it get the key, and most likely the drive has been erased but if not it should still have the key on it.

Yes before erasing the mislabled 9504 I dumped all the files including the key. How do i put my own key now? It wouldnt let me flash the key...and would i be able to flash this drive as a 9504?

What you need to do is open jungleflasher, then for source select what you read from the drive, the dummy.bin. Then for firmware select the OFFICAL FW 0272 then spoof source to target, and then flash that to the 9504 drive, then update, and after that flash the CFW to the drive, if you do not flash the OFM first it will not update, and you may have to unlock the drive so make sure that you know how to do that.

I just re-read this, if you do not have the key from the console you tried to update then you MUST do the RGH to get the key back.

Yes i have dumped the files with the key.bin from the old 74850c swapped drive...so yes i do have the consoles key. Now remember the new drive i got off ebay is a mislabled 9504 which after the dash update would remain a 0225 right? I am also assuming that my xbox had a proper 9504 hence why i should update my drive to an 0272 right? Because a proper 9504 would become a 0272 after the new dash.

My last question...flashing the ofw, will this let me flash the key.bin to the drive? Because it seems to be stuck when i try to flash the key i never suceed

No luck guys....still getting a Flash Verification Test Dump Failed;

I loaded the dummy.bin from the files I dumped from the dvd I got off ebay, after a lot of tries and errors I manage to get it into vendor mode, I load the 0272 firmware, spoof it from source to target flash it .. but fails verification;

You do not want to load the dummy.bin from the ebay drive. It should be blank, hence the FFFFFFFFF....drive key. You need the key from your console which you can get either by RGH or from the drive in the unit now. Shouldn't be a problem from your 7k series drive. Get that key then spoof it to source and flash the stock fw to your new ebay drive.

update through xbox live and enjoy a stock drive for a few days

then once 3.0 comes out update to lt 3!

Also, try to rerun. Sometimes with Hitachis I have to flash em 2 or 3 times to get a success. All is weird in modville today

No mate...you didn't understand my problem. I Dumped the keys from the previous drive...I have the key of my console. The problem is with injecting the key into the ebay drive...it's impossible!

I managed to flash the ebay drive into a 0272, put back in my console, I managed to get rid of the update error BUT the console won't play any original games! It's giving me the PLAY DVD error because it doesn't have the key.

I hooked it up again to my pc, unlocked the drive ( after update it obviously locked up) I unlocked it since it an MXIC chip, flash the dvd again with the CFW 0272 but after writing all 4 banks it WONT BLOODY VERIFY IT. I never managed to read the keys off this bloody drive again after I did it the first time when I hooked it up before ereasing, I never managed to fully write the keys and firmware.

I even noticed that once I unlocked the drive in jungle flasher, when i flashed the CFW 0272 the first time, I never saw the option to lock the drive again in jungle flasher. The spi lock box it grey and empty...I know i'm supposed to lock the drive again once flashed but this won't work.

The only thing that got me past the veryfying problem it but rebuilding the cut trace and flashing again ( knowing the drive was still unlocked). It did verify but on the final restoring stages it failed saying authorisation failed. SPI Lock button was still grey empty and I still couldn't ready the key from my dvd to verify everything was correctly flashed....


IDEAS PLEASE??? This drive is going into the bin, potentially along with this bloody xbox slim sh*t....i'm giving up on this crap.


Here I have the key to my console, a working dvd off ebay that cost me $80, flashed the dvd but can't get it to work and verify with my key.....i f*cking give up guys...i tried everything...it's going into the bin!!

FIXED !!!!!!!!! FINALLY !!!!!!!!

So...short resume....

Xbox slim with an original liteon 9504 had it's drive changed to a Liteon Phat 78450c. I bought a new dvd drive off ebay which turned out to be a 9504 mislabled with 0225 firmware and MXIC chip.

The problem I was encountering was that I was able to flash the firmware but the KEY that I dumped off the old 78450c couldn't be flashed to the dvd drive, probably due to the fact that the key was dumped off a different breed of LiteOn (phat 78450c). I found out there was a fix by using REGEDIT in windows to enable the WRITE KEY option in Jungle Flasher. So first I loaded the dumped 78450c firmware as Source, loaded the OFW 0272 as Target and spoofed. Key was copied to the target flash but when flashed the firmware to my dvd drive, it verified the firmware flash but failed when trying to write the key at Authorise and Restore.

Went back to Firmware Toold 32 in Jungle Flasher and right clicked in the Target area and selected Write Key...gave me a Stage 1 and Stage 2 Completed message and TA DAAA..flash was completed with the Key I wanted it to have !!

Re-dumped firmware to make sure everything was right, autoloaded CFW 0272, spoofed to target and flashed this time firmware and key altogether in one go and verified without probs!!! Wippiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Damn that was tough !
