I have a 1.4 Crystal Xbox with a Xecuter 3 Pinheader install. The 5v led lights up and the 3.3v does not. The xbox does not power on with or without the modchip in. I am not sure whats going on. Thanks in advance.

I installed the chip for him. I have done about 6 xboxes and wrote the first tutorial on how to fix broken traces for xboxhacker but it now resides at xbs.com. So its most likley not from a splash or messed up trace. He told me that it could be the 3.3v solder point; and im going to check on that tomorrow. But the main concern is that it does not boot even with the modchip disconnected. He also switched from the japanese powersupply to the US when he got home, so there was no way for me to test it when it left my place. Could it be the powersupply or something else. Because from my experience, the box should at least power on or give some sign.

Still no luck with the Xbox powering on. We check the solder and it all looks good. The 5v led on the chip pulses, which sounds like a problem with the power supply. I switched out the 1.4 Pal psu with a NTSC psu. The xbox does nothing when you hit the power. It is a brand new Crystal so this is weird. Could it be an issue with the power supply? Also I have not connected the X3 black switch thing, is this necessary for it to work? I was under the impression that it was not.

remove your switch power connection form your x3 chip and plug it back into the motherboard. I had the same problem and i figured out that was it. I still cannot figure out why it wont work with the x3 power switch.
Can you explain this more detailed? I am not sure what you mean by "remove the switch power connection on the x3 chip." Hope to hear from you. Thanks.

how does this sound like a solder problem to anyone when all he first said was "it doesn't power on at all", that's a power supply problem, or a lack of reconnecting the atx connector (or at connector from 1.0/1.1), and would have nothing to do with soldering anywhere near the lpc

It is a 1.4 Crystal. I switched the PAL PSU to a NTSC 1.4 PSU. The led on the modchip pulses which makes me believe it is a PSU issue aswell. I get no fans, nothing when I hit power so...

Re: Replace pcb's in hitachi's?

I think he's asking can he just swap his fully working pcb from his damaged hitachi drive and put it into a new hitachi drive without doing any work to the firmware.

Answer: Yes you can with any drive I think, The hardware is all the same, even if You have a 47d, or what ever there called and a 79d, you can just swap the boards and then its all ok. hope that made sence.
