Xbr3 To Freeboot 0.032 E71 Bad Blocks Help?

hi guys. i updated my falcon from xbr to freeboot and cpu key matched my original nand. i built the image with freeboottoolboxmaker22 and updated using the xell eject button boot method. everything seemed to go welland after the power off i rebooted only to see my 360 go to the e71 error screen with red light on front of the xbox. i have discovered my original nand has bad blocks and the guy i got the jtag off rebuilt me an xbr image which i used to reflash my 360. he then said

"You'll have to make the updflash using freepig. The bad blocks from your original nand are below:

Found Block ID 0x02AF at offset 0x01077C00
Found Block ID 0x00AD at offset 0x0107BE00

You'll have to get someone from IRC or the forums help you manually offset these blocks to the end of the freeboot image.

Put this in a forum and I'm sure someone will give you the lines you need.

I've not manually moved blocks for a long time otherwise I'd do it for you. Easy to mess up if you don't have the experience so best to get someone who has done this many times to assist.

Let me know if you have success."

i was hoping someone here with the expertise may be able to help. as things stand my jtag is useless for new xbla games and new iso games. but i heard if i remove the updates from the iso games they will still work (not sure if this works with all games myself as i use my non jtag for most iso games burned on dl dvds.

i aint heard of no workaround or any way to remove the updates or patch the latest arcade games to work with xbr so i guess i am stuck trying to update to freeboot 0.032 with no success. damn bad blocks
if anyone can help me fix this bad blocks problem with my nand or fix it for me it would be greatly appreciated.

any help would be great guys.
cheers.

Can't the person who sold you the Jtag send you a copy of the original NAND dump? The information is kind of short, we need to know the bad blocks and also their location.

thanks for the reply. i had the original nand dump off him when it arrived it was on the hdd. it's just after flashing the image i made with freeboottoolmaker22 it didnt work. so i looked into it and it was suggested that i had bad blocks. i loaded my cpukey and my original nand into 360flashtool and it said there was bad blocks. the guy i bought it off made me a new freeboot image to try after i sent him my nand and cpu key. unfortunatly it didnt work. he said he aint remapped blocks in a while and i better ask someone else which i figured wernt so helpful but at least he had made me a xbr image so i could reflash my 360 to xbr for the time being.
this is what the bad blocks tab says in 360flashtool
bad block id 0x00ad (offset: 0x002c9a00)
bad block id 0x02af (offset: 0x00b11e00)
block id 0x02af found @ 0x3fe [offset: 0x01077c00]
block id 0x00ad found @ 0x3ff [offset: 0x0107be00]

i have seen some tutorials about remapping bad blocks but tbh i am more of a console gamer than pc wizz and the tutorial really went over my head. i would only attept this as a last resort and i would probably 99% mess it up.
hope this extra info will throw some light on my 360 situation :(

1. Create your freeboot image using your CPU key and your original NAND dump as a source.

2. for the sake of argoument will assume the result is called freeboot.bin, place this in nandpro folder.

3. open a command prompt window and navigate to where nandpro is.

4. Type the following:

>nandpro freeboot.bin: -r16 2AF.bin 1

>nandpro freeboot.bin: -r16 AD.bin 1

At this stage you should see 2 new files created within the folder (16kb each) one called 2AF.bin and the other is AD.bin

5. Next type this:

>nandpro freeboot.bin: -w16 2AF.bin 3FE 1

>nandpro freeboot.bin: -w16 AD.bin 3FF 1

6. Write the freeboot.bin image now using the NAND-X or if you are using the flash360 tool then rename the file to 'updflash.bin' and place in the root of your USB flash drive.

thanks for the reply. i will creat the freeboot.bin as i did previously then download nandpro and enter the line exactly how you said and give it a go :)
one more thing the guy i got the jtag off said to update using the eject button blue screen xell thingy. will this method work ok for flashing my remapped freeboot.bin. it worked ok when flashing back to xbr so i'm assuming this tool is reliable for the freeboot flash? just a little wary of this tbh after the initial e71 experiance.

You can update via xell if you place the file on a usb stick and rename it to 'updflash.bin'. When you boot up using the eject button xell should load and update from there.

As long you got a working XBR image and the NAND-X and it can read and write to the NAND then there is no need to be concerned as you can always reflash your working copy of XBR. I'm pretty certain though that you will get your freeboot working eventually.

Try this instead, place the freeboot.bin file in the root dir of Jtag tool (C:\Program Files\Jtag Tool). Next navigate to the same directory from the command prompt and try to run nandpro from there.

got it working now thanks. said it read both the files but i aint seen the new bin files in the nadpro directory. don't know what i done wrong :( also i don't know how to tell cmd to read both the files at once i have to do it one at a time. i will have to do the same thing when writing the files back to the nad aswell cos i'm a noob with cmd and don't know how to tell it to do more than one thing at a time if you know what i mean.

I'm confused now. You got nandpro working or is it the whole thing and the console now is running freeboot? Are you still stuck?

sorry i didn't make myself clear. i got nadpro working and it read the freeboot.bin and when i type the -r16 etc it reads it but i don't see no created images in the nandpro folder.
and what i ment about the cmd thing is i don't know how to tell cmd how to execute more than one task at a time. in other words i have to read nandpro freeboot.bin: -r16 2AF.bin 1
and then read nandpro freeboot.bin: -r16 AD.bin 1 individualy if you know what i mean.
so if i do manage to extract the 2 small bin files i would have to write them back to the nand in 2 steps cos of my limited knowledge of cmd.
would writing back the bim images to the nand in 2 seperate steps cause any corruption or would it still work ok?
sorry to be such a pain in the arse and i really appreciate your help with this :)
btw when you refer to nand-x i don't know what this is. i assume it's a program? tbh i don't know anything about the jtagging and all i know is what i have been told about flashing the xbox using xell.
i hope that by letting you know just how limited my knowledge is on this subject you may see where i'm coming from and how i am so useless lol.

You are not meant to run all the commands in one go, they are executed one at a time. I assumed you had the NAND-X device which physically connects to your xbox for reading and writing the NAND but never mind.

Check your PM ...

i got your pm but luckily i have found the files they had saved to documents and settings sao now i have to write them back to the freeboot image in my nandpro folder and then flash my drive. so doubt there would be any need for the team viewer thing. thanks for the offer thou.
i really wernt expecting those bin files to save in documents and settings lol. anyway after writng back the mini bin files to the freeboot nand and renamed it updflash.bin i am good to go with the xell flash?
