I tried to softmod my xbox and I screwed up my hard drive.

My question is, it I install the mod chip with a new hard drive will it work?

Please point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

What did you do to your harddrive? There is no need for an X3, a 2.6 will do just fine.

hi there
i have a V1.0 xbox which the hard drive died on me so i installed a x2.6ce and got another drive to replace the dead one. my question is was there any files on the old drive that the xbox needed to get up and running or is it a matter just flashing the bios and pop in a auto installer and away you go. any help would be apreciated.

Flash the bios and run a auto installer and your set to go.

ok so now i'm having trouble flashing the chip. I can't seem to get it to read any media i've tried different brands cd-rw dvd-r dvd-rw and all i get at the flash bios screen is boot ide read error so i don't know if it's the way i'm burning or another problem altogether. i also got the x2 programmer when i bought the chip and i'm unable to get that to recognise the chip when it is connected. i'm getting frustrated any help would be appreciated

ok here is what is happening
i get the flash bios 3.0.3 screen it says
HDD: 1.47gb
ATA 48 bit LBA supported
HDD: (random symbols and numbers) followed by 534.60GB
(if i restart the xbox the HDD:'s are always different)
i then scroll down to load bios with disc
cd tray opens as it should, i put the disc in and close the tray
then i usually freezes on a screen the has
CD-Rom label:with a whole lot of random numbers and letters.
The new hard drive i have to replace the old one is just a standard drive that has been formatted.
any thoughts?

the old hd is dead when it is pluged in it just makes a clunking noise and i get an error 7 which is why i am replacing it, so it is no good to me. i got my programmer to work on a different computer so i flashed it with that using x2 5035 bios so i will try it out tonight when i get home. thanks again for your help i'll let you know what happens

This was the same problem as me as when i tryed softmodding the hdd must of shorted out so i bought the chip and stuck a 2 gb hdd in and just wouldnt work so i tryed various old hdd varying in size but all under 5 gb so i bout a cheap 20 gb and it worked straight off and i was able to use slayers auto install disc and it was all sweet after and ever since so i think if your hdd is smaller than 8gb then it wont work as there may be some sort of size limiter.

the hard drive is a seagate 10gb which originally came out of a xbox so i dont think that would be the problem. i have made some progress i flashed the chip with an x2 programmer using what i thought was the correct bios but now when the xbox starts up it goes to the x2 config live screen and FRAGs so i will reflash the chip tomorrow as my notebook doesn't have a port to plug into

you may be right i flashed the chip with x2 5035 in bank 1 and with evox m8 in bank 2 when i boot off bank 1 with the x2 it freezes at the config live loading screen and if i boot it from bank 2 i get the flubber with the evox in the corner of the screen then i get the error 7 so i think i have hdd issues i have tried 2 differnent hdd's both 10gb with the same result so if anyone can help it would be appreciated i guess i should stop being cheap and buy a decent size hdd which may fix the problem
