Hi all,
I have been reading through all of these networking prblem troubleshooting tutorials on both teamxecuter.com as well as many a tutorial on everything I could find on xbox-scene.com. I cannot figure out even after DAYS of 8-12 hours each searching on the forums.
I have an xbox version 1.0 and I just purchased an Xecuter 2.6 CE modchip from system-mods.com. This chip came preflashed with Flashbios 3.0.3. I was able to properly install the chip the first time thanks to prior soldering and electronic experience. Blue LED is on inside the xbox and I get to the flashbios 3.0.3 dash. We all know the 5 options on the screen. What do I do now!?!?!?

I have looked through so many tutorials regarding networking setups to make my pc and my xbox talk to eachother with flashfxp. Cannot get anything to work or get weird results all the time. I have even tried copying to a "T" the settings outlined for others who have asked in their posts about this same thing. Everything down to changing all my Ip addresses on the wireless card and NIC cards in my PC, as well as the network setup in my MSdash. Nothing is working. If anybody would care to take me under their wing and help me out with this I would be eternally grateful and would then be able to help others as well. Here are my settings:

Netgear Router (not behind Xbox) 192.168.0.1 (default)

Xbox(not connected to wifi in any way...just to NIC on my laptop w/ crossover)
IP............192.168.0.3
Sub-net....255.255.255.0
Gateway...192.168.1.1

Wifi (card 1)
IP............192.168.0.2
Sub-net....255.255.255.0
Gateway...(blank)

NIC (card 2)
IP............192.168.1.1
Sub-net....255.255.255.0
Gateway...(blank)

DHCP is on for the wifi but it shouldn't matter because I am just trying to use NIC card 2 to connect to the unlocked xbox via flashfxp. I assume I am using fxp correctly when I boot it up, then F8, under server/url I key in the address 192.168.0.3 right? Maybe my network is setup wrong. I'm sure noob is latin for idiot and boy do I feel like one now!!! Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

OMG... you really searched that long? No offense but I doubt it.

Your NIC IP and your XBox Gateway are wrong.

Do this...

Xbox(not connected to wifi in any way...just to NIC on my laptop w/ crossover)
IP............192.168.0.3
Sub-net....255.255.255.0
Gateway...192.168.0.1

Wifi (card 1)
IP............192.168.1.2
Sub-net....255.255.255.0
Gateway...(blank)
(disable this connection during FTP)

NIC (card 2)
IP............192.168.0.1
Sub-net....255.255.255.0
Gateway... 192.168.0.1

All set. Try and ping your xbox now...

Okay...tried to set the laptop to those numbers but still nothing when trying to ping the xbox. Currently I have a wireless router w/ DHCP enabled that is providing my wifi w/ everything: IP--192.168.0.2 w/ subnet @ 255.255.255.0 and the gateway set at 192.168.0.1. I set it up for what you specified and while I kept a wifi connection, I lost all access to my router and internet. This all shouldn't matter though because the NIC is separate from the wifi and with it's own IP and gateway, should function as is own network connection, right?
I thought I understood networking but I guess not.
Also I assume I am supposed to set up the xbox network settings under the MS dash, right? And then Flashbios 3.0.3 imports these settings? Currently, I am trying to load a different bios and/or evox or avalaunch. All the tutorials I have read suggest doing this via ftp but obviously that is not working for me. Should I just try burning a disc and loading it that way? I would really prefer to ftp to my xbox ahead so I know what I am doing in the future.
BTW... are the wifi and NIC card integrated on a notebook? I have a VAIO laptop with the ethernet port on the side and the wifi switch in front. There are two separate drivers and also two separate devices under device manager so I assume that they are separate as well.

Ok, when I had you change your WiFi IP it was to get it off the same network as your xbox...

Here's a quick run down on networking and VLSM.

When you put 255.255.255.0 as a SM that is telling your computer that wherever there is a 255 in your IP that those numbers are network numbers and wherever there's a 0 that it's the host number... so when your WiFi is

192.168.0.2 and your xbox is 192.168.0.3, your esentially telling your PC that both your WiFi and your Xbox are on network 192.168.0.0

And when your NIC was on 192.168.1.1 you were telling your PC that your NIC was on 192.168.1.0

Now, the xbox (192.168.0.0) and the NIC (192.168.1.0) don't match so it won't work.

Now, this is a really dumbed down explanation so don't try to get a CCNA off of this:)

Anyway, I told you to get your xbox and your NIC on the same network...

So in mine...

XBox 192.168.0.0

PC 192.168.0.0

and I put your WiFi to whatever... just to get it out of the way.

Now, set your WiFi back to DHCP so it'll get on the net... which you did because you were able to post:D

Disable that connection. Use my settings and a cross over cable between the xbox and the NIC and it'll work.

You set these setting in flashbios... after you pick "Flash via HTTP" it askes you for the IP info... then you can check and ping your box.

Lastly even though the WiFi and NIC are seperate, your PC see's both connections as valid... The PC then chooses which one to use to get to the internet using metrics and other variables...

You see a router is just a PC with a few NIC's in it... in a sense.

I just posted a tut on how to make routing tables in a windows enviroment... it's really easy! Just do a search on all my posts it's only 1 or two behind this one.

In fact here

http://www.teamxecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32721

and

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prcc_tcp_mxss.asp

If you have any other problems just post. :D

Ok...now I see the problem where I am getting all hung up on. When I select the flashbios option "flash via ftp" or whatever it is, my box will load that up telling me about transfer rates, in full duplex mode, blah, blah. It will then wait for about a minute or so and eventually tell me that it is "falling back to 192.168.0.99 and I can do no more. What really sucks is that somehow my flashbios screen is chopped off of the screen about 10 inches to one side and I can only read the end of almost every line:mad:. I posted about this and was advised to set my xbox widescreen mode back to normal and it would work, but to no avail. Any idea why my mod is hanging after I have everything connected?

Ok still looking for help, but with incessant toying and a huge number of tries I was finally able to bring flashbios 3.0.3 into my browser window. For some reason it would not load through I.E. but using active desktop, and then typing 192.168.0.99 in the address bar while having My Computer open seemed to work.:D
Anyway...I created a 512K bios of EvoX 2.6 that I got from xbins (assuming it is a correct one for my 1.0 according to the file folders on xbins) and tried endlessly to flash the chip. It would progess yellow about 25% and then hang over and over again. I tried doing this predominately into bank 2 as I had read EvoX2.6 likes to be in bank 2 for some reason. Ironically I was able to create a 512K bios of FB3.0.3 and actually acheive a successful flash to bank 1!:D
However this only happened once and never again. Still sitting here with FB 3.0.3 in both banks and still hanging over and over. Do I need to create a 1024K bios with FB in bank 1 and EvoX in bank 2? Do I even have my modded bios correct for my 1.0?
Also I heard that the cable not getting a great connection from the mod chip to the external switch on the xbox could be problem. Tried to "pinch" it together while flashing, as this had worked for others but to no avail for me.
I AM SO CLOSE! What is the last piece of the puzzle?
