Hi,

I've modded about a dozen xbox's in my time and am quite comfortable with the solderless xapter solution with the 2.x series.

However the last three chips that I have used, have burned up in front of my eyes.

Here is a photo of one of the chips attached - you'll notice that one connection has burnt off in the bottom right hand corner.

Any idea what could be causing this problem? One of the chips was working fine, and I installed a lot of software to the box. But once i rebooted the xbox, the chip fried itself. Any more chips I put into this xbox then also became fried.

Any help would be gratefully received

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but what version is the Xbox in question?

Sorry I should have specified.

Mine has a focus chip, so is either a 1.4 or a 1.5. AFAIK I dont need to make any further distinction as the chip can handle both.

This is a new security feature.

If the chip / BIOS detects unsigned code on the Xbox, it self destructs. More importantly, it sends a smoke signal which is picked up by Microsoft's Satellite. If you're lucky you'll have 72 hours to emmigrate.

My suggestion is to eat the evidence - Microsoft are not authorised to perform explorative surgery or (if it comes to it) an autopsy. Make sure a family member knows to have you cremated just to be sure (although the smoke is again picked up by Microsoft and the whole thing starts over).

Seriously, check your soldering - you may have a short or as fantmx has said, it could be you've installed this incorrectly.
