hi.

my xbox frags with the chip on but works with the chip off..
i did the pinheader method with the rebuild pcb method.. and reinstalled everything 2 times but it still doesnt work and no bad solder points..i even tried different banks. this isn't the first time i installed a x2.6ce chip.. could it be a bad chip???

i always use this diagram and it worked for me on every 1.6 mod

Hoezy, I have the exact same problem. I followed the pic in the v2.6 LPC rebuild but it still doesn't work. This is my 1st time installing a v2.6 on a v1.6a.

I try to boot up with the chip turned on but all it does is shutdown twice and the 3rd time it just frags. I boot up with the chip off and it goes to the MS dashboard.

I've checked all my connections and the only one I saw that was loose was the alt 5 volt wire. I resoldered the wire, put the box back together but still frags with the chip on. The other wires are soldered correctly and there is no solder going over another trace.

Does anyone have any more ideas?

Make sure that the plugs for the remote switch panel are securely and fully seated. Sometimes the plug bows out and doesn't make a solid connection.

what are the voltages supposed to be on each pin? I cannot verify that they are getting the correct voltages without first having the values to verify against.

Having the same problem as above red & green flashing on third power up after 2 failed power ups. The Xbox still works with chip disabled. I think it is 1.6 MoBo but not absolutely sure. It looks exactly like the 1.6 pictured in the install tutorial. Are there any markings on the board other than the LPC port being different that will tell me if I have a 1.6? Xbox was purchased in NOV of 05 after my first one (a v1.0) was fried by being plugged into 220v by a friend. He replaced the first with the one I have now.

I have already checked the install and re-installed it after finding a problem with the first install but still no luck. Have flashed using the programmer and X2BM v2.3. First time I flashed with the flashbios 3.03 and M8+ 1.6. 2nd time with flashbios 3.01 and x2_5035_v16plus_512k. I have exhausted these forums looking for an answer and now its time to ask for help.

on another note, Is it possible to install this chip on a v1.6+ using the wire install? if so where can I find the instructions to do so because that is the only thing that I have not tried to do yet.

Look at the links available in my sig. There is a link to an excellent guide to confirming your Xbox version based on the video chip, the power connector, the RAM and on occasion the processor heat sink. Dead easy.

There is a wire install guide stickied right here in this forum. Read through it to get an idea as to why you *don't* want to do a wire install. Pictures are there if you go far enough through.

Thanks, I got the voltages for the 1.5 MoBo which should be the same for a 1.6 after a LPC rebuild correct? I also confirmed that I have the 1.6 using the link and checking my MoBo against the pics provided. I will test everything later when I get a chance and hopefully that will tell me what is wrong.

If there is something wrong I am going to uninstall the pinheader and install using the wires method which should also be the same for lower versions of MoBo as a 1.6 after a LPC rebuild. I think that my problem may be the LPC rebuild PCB supplied with chip but not sure of anything until I test. If the wires install fails then what should I do because at that point i would have tried everything and everything would have failed.

Is it possible that the chip itself is bad? I mean, I can flash it though my PC using the programmer but so far nothing has worked. It is a 2.6CE.

Thanks in advance for any help.

well, installed using wires method and now my xbox frags even with chip off. After I uninstalled the pinheader i checked to see if it still worked and it did, but after the doing the wire install on one of the last few pages of that sticky topic, it does not work. Now to back up and try to get it working normally again. If not i have a backup MoBo but would rather not use it because i dont know if it works or not. If It does i would rather not use it still in case something happens down the road and I need it.

Same Problem here, installed 2.3 many times, first 2.6 install. I think my problem is different though, I tried to install 4983.06 512, failed at end, installed 1024, turned off now experiencing same problem.

FINALLY!!!! I got it working. I used a modified wires install that bypasses the LPC port rebuild and it works great. That was the wires method that I used before but my connections were not that great because of the size of the points but I noticed that on one of them the connection is already bridged to another point on the board that was about 1/8 an inch away. I decided to bridge them with solder to make a better connection and placed the orange wire right in the middle and it works great. Now to figure out what to do with my newly modded xbox. I am about to install slayers evox 2.7 because it seems the easiest to install. Should I go ahead and upgrade the HD as well? I have a 250G that I got for christmas, and I also have an old 120G that I could use, which do people recommend? I know that more space equals more "content" but i was originally planning to use the 250G in my PS2 for the same purposes that i modded my Xbox. Thanks for all the help that I got from everybody. Off to further exploit yet another console.
