Xecuter 3 won't bring up the flashbios

I have a brand new XBOX version 1.6.

Installed the pin header and the LPC rebuild board provided with the X3.

Haven't upgraded the HDD yet, still getting kicked by the lack of the Flashbios screen.

If I enable the chip the x on front panel turns blue, both leds on the chip itself are on, but no picture or no sound.

If I disable or remove the chip the X on the front panel is red, both leds on the chip are on, and it functions like a factory XBOX.

Get no error codes, took my time with the soldering...

I installed an X3 in a different XBOX last week and I had no problems with it at all. However this one seems to be kicking me in the gonades.  I hate pain

Have you tried to boot from the Backup BIOS? Press the Power and Eject buttons at the same time (logo should go purple).

BTW it sounds like you've installed everything correctly...

Okay I removed the LPC rebuild PCB and installed wires.

Unless the chip is disabled the power/eject will flash green for a few seconds then goes solid green for about 10 seconds then goes to a solid orange. If I try to eject the dvd drive it just flashes green for about 10 more second then orange again.

I hate being outsmarted my a machine. Any idea of how i can cure this ailment

Sounds like you don't have the FlashBIOS 3.0.3 on your chip. It's probably worth contacting your supplier and ask if the chip would have had FlashBIOS 3.0.3 on either Banks 1234 or 5678. If not, then they *should* reflash it for you.

Either that, or get a non 1.6b Xbox and fit the chip to reflash one of the banks to 3.0.3/BIOS of your choice.

that flew over my head but sounds like u got it sorted in laymans turms what was it? :D
Basically the 1.6b will only show a FlashBIOS if it's v3.0.3. Anything lower than this and you'll just get a blank screen (no sound/video).

Upgraded my 1.0 to the x3 and updated to flashbios 3.0.3 and the 1.6b is running like a champ... however still unable to get x3 1959 to download and unrar... but x3 1957 is working so that is good for now... thanks for the help Martin C...

Martin C,

I am sorry if this is common knowledge or what-not, but I have searched the forums rather diligently and have come up nothing. You said, "Either that, or get a non 1.6b Xbox and fit the chip to reflash one of the banks to 3.0.3/BIOS of your choice." If I was to try that method, How exactly would I go about doing that? I understand I would have to solder it in and everything, but how do I "reflash" one of the banks to 3.0.3? Thanks for any help.

You can reflash your chip with anything you want as long as you can access the FlashBIOS screen.

In other words, boot the chip in a 1.0-1.5 Xbox and set the switches to off off off off off. Flash a 2MB FlashBIOS 3.0.3 to the chip and it will replace your current banks with FlashBIOS 3.0.3.

You'll then be able to refit the chip and it will work in your 1.6b Xbox.

I will say though, if you're going to the trouble of flashing a 2MB BIOS, you may as well make it a 2MB BIOS with 1MB X3 1959plus16 and 1MB FlashBIOS 3.0.3.

I think I am missing a really big concept when it comes to these "banks." The way I take it is that the X3 has 2mb of memory available and the "banks" just divide that up so you can have x number of different bios's. First of all, here's some background info. I've installed an X3 chip in a 1.6b xbox. I believe all the soldering is good. When I went to turn it on the first time I had no audio, no video, just black screen. This led me to believe the incompatibility of pre 3.0.3 FlashBios and 1.6b was the problem. I hooked up my xbox later that day with different a/v and power cables and surprisingly the 3.0.0 FlashBios blue screen came up. I was very shocked by this, but I went ahead and flashed it through HTTP with the 1mb X3 1959plus16 bios with the switch as on, on, off, off, off. When the box rebooted, it did the no audio/no video thing again. When I boot up with the chip and the switch on a different bank (such as off, on, off, off, off) It boots up to the FlashBios again. I also read a thread talking about how the 13 and 14 LPC things might have something to do with it doing that, so I checked those and it turned out good. So, I now solely suspect it's a compatibility issue with 1.6b again.

Now I guess I have two questions. (1)If I wanted to reflash my first 1mb bank, can I just boot up on any bank to get to the FlashBios then switch the switch to make it on, on, off, off, off and then go ahead with the flash? Or what do I need to do there? (2)You were also talking about making either a 2mb FlashBios 3.0.3 or a 1mb/1mb of X3 1959 & FlashBios. Now the X3 1959 is already 1mb, but the FlashBios (at least the ones I've seen) are only 256k. How do you make that into a 1mb Bios? And also how would I combine the two as you were saying?

I'm sorry I'm such a friggin' noob, but I really do appreciate your help. Thanks so much!

PS - When chip is disabled, it boots up normal MS Dashboard.

Absolutely - this is exactly how you would do it!

You can use X2 BIOS Manager to do this - read the tutorials for help.

And also how would I combine the two as you were saying?
You don't have to - using the method above you could flash them separately. The DOS copy command allows you to join to or more files and with the /b switch, works fine with BIOSes.

Only stock cables are compatable! The others dont work. double check the connection in the back. also you must use a 3.03 flasbios to flash up the correct BIOS. It should only be x3 1959_1.6ver.bin. Make sure it's the right one or you will have nothing but problems. Also wiggle the chip a bit if that does'nt work(while its on)!

You guys are awesome. Thanks a whole lot. I do have one more question. My friend is planning to mod his xbox with an X3 today. He has a 1.6 (not b). I should be able to just plug my chip into his box to flash it, shouldn't I? I sure hope so, otherwise I'll have to take the chip and put it in an old 1.0 that my brother has. Thanks again guys!

It should work as long as the X3 bioses are the same for both versions.

Just an update. I have my box and X3 chip running great now. Turns out I didn't have to use my friend's box afterall. I just booted up to one of the other banks that still had FlashBIOS 3.0.0 and then updated the first bank to 3.0.3. After that I flashed the x3 bios onto bank one and all is gravy!! I am really happy about this. I love the modding community!! Thanks again.
