someone please help me. I cant get my modchip to work and i checked the solder points many times. It might be because of poor solder so i have made these pics so you can see if it is either solder problem or something else. I have 1.6 xbox and a xecuter 3. When i try to plug in everything the modchip light is on but the external switch lights are off and it boots up in the regular MS dash instead of the backup bios. Here are the pictures in this attachment.

Thx

you have a lot of solder on them joints also if you arent getting the external lights and only one light on the chip, check pins 15 and 9 also check the pins in the external switch and make sure they are not bent.

Hi all. I'm attemping to help a buddy that's experiencing (almost) the same problem. No lights on the extrenal switch. But it's not all : when the external switch is pluged to the X3, one of the power LED (5.0V I think, the at the bottom side of the XB), so I checked the 9 & 15 pin but nothing, so remade, still nothing. When the external switch isn't pluged, the XB frags (only if the D0, LAN, HDD wires are pluged) but both power LED are lit. And finally when nothing is pluged to the chip, the console just boots to the M$Dash. At the beginning I tryed to remake all his solder points because his XB just fraged whaterver he did, but now ... I just described what's happenning. All the solder points seem to be perfect (not "PERFECT" but sufficient). I don't know what to do to help him. I didn't experienced this with mine.

His XBox :
-XB v.1.3
-Pin header install
-stock HDD

Any help would be appreciable. Vietboi, if you fixed up your problem, tell me how please. Thank you.

This is what I did:
Try soldering a wire from each pin to the corresponding connector on the chip. These connectors are at the sides of the plastic block that you slide onto the lpc pins. Solder these to the very bottom of the lpc pins so that you can still slide the chip onto them. Then slide the chip onto the lpc pins. This way you know that your chip is connected properly. Use a multimeter on your lpc pins and to the back of th motherboard. Check for shorts on the lpc pins. Although, on mine, (that works), there are 3 pins that are connected somehow, all in the row on the left when looking at the lpc pins from the front of the xbox. If you count this row upwards, they are 1, 2, and 5.

Check your do point, and check everything again. Or maybe your chip doesn't have flashbios on it. (Very unlikely but anyway).

If this helps please add to my rep.

by the looks of your pictures i'd desolder everything and start over again or get someone else to do it. your putting too much solder on each point and looks like you might be leaving the iron in contact with the solder too long but i'd need closer pics to be sure. Remember you need 2 led's lit on the chip for it to work so work on getting that then atleast you'll know that the chip is powering up properly

Infront Of my Computer.
Just clean off all of those joints and resolder them, that is a very sloppy soldering job. Your contact points look dirty, PM me if you want more help

If I was to unplug my modchip, my XBOX would frag because my hdd is unlocked. If yours is unlocked, then this is probably why it frags.

I think you must have everything connected for the XBOX to work, I mean, HDD, DVD Drive, Fans, AV screwed in... I'm pretty sure but haven't tested this.
