There is no need to erase. If you use nandpro, the chip will be erased and then the new xsvf will be written to the chip.

Make sure you are patient with it. I know my xbox Slim now takes about one minute to turn on.

Can you boot into XELL by pressing the eject button?

When you flash your Xbox, do not install dashlaunch. Does any of that help?
