Can someone explain to me what cutting the traces does?
it allows you to get the key

ok, but it doesn't mess with any of the drive's functions though right?

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

quick quesiton..how come you guys don;'t have a picture of your work...b4 selling to people? just curious...i mean it's the best way to get customers trust....maximus has two videos....just a thought..don't get mad...please
What do you mean ? There are a dozen pictures in the tutorial in the very post that you are replying to.

Also Customers Trust ? We have been developing games products for 10 years - we're pretty famous for it ;) We were doing this stuff when Maximus was still in school.

Fitting this is simple. It can't be made any simpler aside from somebody doing it for you.

I'm not mad - I just think you are a bit confused :)

Hi,

I have been struggling for a week trying to get my drive’s dump, I could not get the status 0x72.
Has a last attempt before switching to MRA solution to get the dump I have replaced the LT switch resistor by one of 18 ohms.

Then at the first try I got my dump.

Hi Barnabe42

Here's the thing - I've only seen EXACTLY only 2 instances of this (including your report) out of thousands of reports / emails / pro installer conversations / posts / personal experience so you have to forgive me when I'm a little suspicious of the motives of these first-time poster / new member posts.

The only solution to confirm either way is for you to send me this exact drive with the LT Switch installed with the mod you say you have done (I will arrange a brand new replacement DVD and will cover all your expenses) - I can then confirm if this is something that can be tweeked for these minority cases (Just let me know in a reply if you are prepared to do that).

However up to now the clean 20ohm circuit being used on the LT Switch is fantastically successfully and until I see physical evidence otherwise it will always be put down to an incorrect installation. I have heard reports of 18ohms fixing this issue on a very small number of 93450 drives however every time that was down to the homebrew method so of course there is a margin of error always in play.

Now if I had a long time member who i knew for a fact was very well experienced and had this same issue - then i'd probably take it a little more seriously. All I know is ive done hundreds of drives now and every single one has worked for me. Until I see a drive that shows me differently there is nothing I can do.

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

I have had drives posted to me with this error!

All have been just bad cuts or dry joints.
After removing the LT checking the connections and re-soldering dumped and done!

I highly recommend using flux when soldering or you may just have issues.

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

Don't get me wrong I would LOVE to see a drive that had an issue so we could provide an immediate solution. But there is no point doing extra work when I see nothing that requires fixing.

I have never seen or heard of any issues with the LT that wasn't user/fitter error :D

If LT aint broke don't try to fix it!

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

I've done two Lite-On drives so far (83850c v2 & 93450c) it worked well with the LT-switch.
But now I have a 74850c. I think it's better to use a LT switch then a probe am I right?
When using te LT switch on it, will I need to do it exactly the same way as a other Lite-On or do I need to follow the 74850c guide? And do I still have a chanche to get the wrong key? Should I still check it with another drive?

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

when testing for cut traces i have the probe on pad101 and the other probe just after where the cut is on the exposed trace. There is no continuity i.e.

(probe)== |== o

where | is the cut, and o is the pad

However when touch the probes immediately before and after the cut trace i.e.

(probe)== |== (probe)

i get a reading jump briefly and then it registers as no continuity

And for pad122 - if i stick a probe on the pad and the other after the cut, there is no continuity but if i stick the probes just before and after the cut I get a reading instead.

Can anyone comment on this?

that is the best way to see if you did or did not cut the tracks properly

that is the best way to see if you did or did not cut the tracks properly
meaning that i should not get any reading if i place the probes immediately before and after the cut?
