Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

by using a conductivity test you can see if your tracks are broken or not
you should not get any (beeps) when the probe is touching before and after the cut

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

If that is the case, then if its close to 0 ohms resistance then the trace is still connected, high values or -- means there is no connectivity?

edit: i changed the settings from 20k ohm to 200 ohm and all the readings are now
-- , i used 20k from a recommendation from another thread.

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

Don't get me wrong I would LOVE to see a drive that had an issue so we could provide an immediate solution. But there is no point doing extra work when I see nothing that requires fixing.
As i wrote before i had to add a resistor of 270 in parallel, to get a total r of about 18,7 ohm. made this it works perfectly...

yes I read that - please read what I posted again - and what the other installers have replied to this. I have to have your drive in my hand to confirm if any tweeks are required. It cannot be confirmed otherwise - as every drive i've been sent (and people like Tea Junkie who do this stuff all day) with this issue - we've been able to fix by installing a standard switch ourselves.

Yours was the second of the only 2 reports btw.

Here's the thing - I've only seen EXACTLY only 2 instances of this (including your report) out of thousands of reports / emails / pro installer conversations / posts / personal experience so you have to forgive me when I'm a little suspicious of the motives of these first-time poster / new member posts.

The only solution to confirm either way is for you to send me this exact drive with the LT Switch installed with the mod you say you have done (I will arrange a brand new replacement DVD and will cover all your expenses) - I can then confirm if this is something that can be tweeked for these minority cases (Just let me know in a reply if you are prepared to do that).

However up to now the clean 20ohm circuit being used on the LT Switch is fantastically successfully and until I see physical evidence otherwise it will always be put down to an incorrect installation. I have heard reports of 18ohms fixing this issue on a very small number of 93450 drives however every time that was down to the homebrew method so of course there is a margin of error always in play.

Now if I had a long time member who i knew for a fact was very well experienced and had this same issue - then i'd probably take it a little more seriously. All I know is ive done hundreds of drives now and every single one has worked for me. Until I see a drive that shows me differently there is nothing I can do.

Makes no difference to me where you are - Fedex is 2 days from anywhere :p

OK well let me know if you get another of these and lets try to arrange something. It does help when I am dealing with someone who knows what they are doing.

Thanks.

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

I've been having similar issues with my LT switch, however I am a noob at soldering so I called it a night last night and will be trying again tonight.

I had the switch on, red and green lights working correctly, tested the tracks with my multimeter all were testing as cut correctly. tested the points/tracks with the switch on and made sure opening and closing the LT switch worked correctly. All seamed good.

The drive is seen in jungle flasher but just cant get it to goto x72, keep getting x80 even tried in dosflash.

I will probably try another method/resistor method but if this works and I try the LT switch again and its still having problems I will be happy to send in my drive for you to look at.

Im thinking chances are I've just noobed up some place but im going over things carefully so will see what I get.

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

had an experienced friend check the traces and they are fine. the solder did not flow down as expected to the pads so I had to put some solder on the pads first before the switch went on top. solder looks good, will test the switch later.

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

if your going to try soldering for the first time at least learn the basics first, you have to tin (place solder on the mating surface) the place your going to solder to first (this is the basics) if you dont it will not stick.

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

There is a slight variation in the JungleFlasher tutorial v1.3.3 in the LT switch section which differs to the one on the first page on this thread - which is correct?

1. Switch in ‘normal position’ Connect drive to PC’s SATA and power drive, select MTK Flash32 tab
2. Refresh, drive properties – so drive shows up
3. Turn power to the drive off.
4. Operate switch to the R/W position
5. Press Intro/ Device ID button
6. Press Yes button
7. Turn power to the drive ON again, (Note the LED will now be RED instead of GREEN)
7a. IF this produces a screen showing BAD FLASH PROPERTIES
then press Intro/Device ID button again
DO NOT POWER CYCLE!
8. If everything has been done correctly – you should be faced with this! [vendor mode]
9. Switch to normal mode

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

Does anyone know if the switch can be wired directly to the chip itself via pin lifts? I have 83v2 series liteon that my friend utterly destroyed. He was comfortable with doing the install on his own and failed miserably. Now he wants me to fix it for him. He sanded off nearly all of the pcb paint in it's entirety... 2 of the pads are gone. I have no problem performing an install... We're just trying to get the key now to spoof another liteon since he cut all the wrong traces as well. Any advice would be awesom!

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

Sorry for the late reply it, basically I can report a successful install dump and flash with the LT switch, as I suspected it was all my fault.

When I used my fibreglass pen to expose one of the pads I also exposed a little of the ground next to the pad, and a tiny spec of solder joined onto that as well as the pad when I soldered thus grounding things out. Still now I know what to look for when I come to do some more :D

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

you have to desolder the LT Switch using a solder sucker or a soldering braid

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

LOL, i just pulled it off. The drive is working perfectly. To hell with it. I've come to the conclusion i'll never be able to correctly do the 5 holes.

Re: Xecuter LT Switch - Installation *UPDATED 1/27/2010*

Dude, i put the drive back in and it's working perfectly, so i gutswapped my bro's 360 with mine. He doesn't mind, the drive works perfectly anyways, although the lt switch has solder all over the holes so i don't think i can use that one again, but i won't throw it away. So i got his new drive which is the exact same one as mine since we both bought a 360 the same day. liteon 83850c v2. I may try again, may not. I just can't cut those damn holes right to solder the lt unto them. Whatever.. Just gonna play some mass effect 2 for a little while.
