hey all, in the guide for game backup trouble shooting: http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25224 we are told that one way to avoid the dirty/damaged disk issue is to get a:

"BIOS Upgrade
Newer BIOS versions (Xecutor 4977 or later, Evox M7 or later) can auto patch games on the fly. This allows you to play backed up games on your modded Xbox even if they contain the media check."

where can the Xecutor 4977 bios be obtained, as the latest on xbins is 3294?

cheers

ok, ive managed to find them. Could someone please let me know what "Multi_version" means in the xbins directories? Does it just mean it is for all xbox versions?

cheers

The 4977 BIOS is an outdated BIOS for the obsolete X2 chip (the newest is 5031). The newest X3 BIOS is the 3294.

That thread was produced on 02-07-05, 09:36 AM and has gone unedited.

Note: The newest EvoX BIOS is the M8

ok thanks, what is the latest bios version that will auto patch games on the fly, and stop the dirty/damaged disk error due to the media check?

cheers

I'm now lost - you said you were having the problem with originals and backups (on another thread). In which case, why are you isolating backups?

You should be using something lik Qwix or DVD2Xbox for backing up your games as the media patch is done automatically.

If you're still getting this issue with the originals, then I can guarantee it has nothing to do with the media check patch.

I will add that not only is 4977 obsolete, but will only support the earlier Xbox versions. You could try the latest X2 BIOS on your X3, however the X3 functions won't work.

basically, all games dont start with x3 bioses 32xx. with earlier bioses than this all games do work, but the dirty/damaged disk error arrises with most recent games, and i need a bios which will allow old games, and these newer games to work! why should the latest bioses not let me play any games?!

cheers

What type of ODD does your Xbox have? In the troubleshooting guide you mentioned eariler it states:

Xecuter said:
4.) Faulty DVD Drive (DVD)

Problem:
The DVD drive in your Xbox is no longer reading games properly.

Solution:
Some drives (particularly the v1.0 Thomsons series) can reach a point where they have trouble reading discs (retail or backup). This, of course, isn't a problem exclusive to Thomson drives. Any drive can stop functioning properly at any time but the Thomsons have the reputation as the drive that causes the most problems.

Here are a couple of solutions to this:
There are ways to tweak the DVD drive to make it do a better job of reading discs. It can be a risky proposition as you could do further damage to your DVD drive in the process. It is also possible that this will only work as a temporary solution. To find out more about "pot tweaking", click here, here, and here. Getting a new DVD drive. This can be costly but is probably the most effective way to fix the problem. Sadly it often isn't too much less expensive than buying a new Xbox. You can order replacement drives here or here amongst other places. Not sure which DVD drive you have? Look here.
The only thing that doesn't fit is the fact that your Xbox's ability to read disks comes and goes with the BIOS you have installed, is it possible for the BIOS's to be reacting differently to the same problem?
