XeLL won't detect my USB to flash nand

So I followed FiB3R's guide and got to the part where I put the xenon.elf and nandflash.bin to a usb key. I did so, and plugged it into the front of the xbox. XeLL was still loaded and searching but never found my usb key... I tried the other port to no luck and then tried rebooting with the key inserted. Still the same searching texts..

Am I missing something here?

Is it formatted to FAT 32? If it is, is that the only thing on the root of your usb drive?

It actually started to work one I plugged in the usb wireless card. Strange.. but once I plugged that in, it detected my USB and started to nand flash. Now I can get into stock dash, have XeX installed on my HDD + FSD.

But I can't figure out how to load Dance Central 2, it keeps telling me I need a system update. I made sure the $SystemUpdate folder is on the HDD but I keep getting that message.. any help?

Move the $SystemUpdate folder onto a USB stick (make sure it matches your version of FreeBOOT) and start the console with it connected.

Accept the update and it will install avatars and kinect data.

Doesn't it need to be called $$ytemupdate as updates might be blocked?

yes, try $$ystemUpdate if you built your image with dashlaunch enabled.

Hm, okay I put the folder on my USB stick and restarted the xbox. It goes into stock dash and immediately a pop up says:

Update Required
A system update is required to use Kinect. To get the update, sign in to Xbox LIVE.

Seems I'm really close.. thanks guys!

Go to Settings/Memory on the dashboard. What memory items do you see and how much space do you have?

I'm at work now but I think I recall the list..

I have:

internal memory (4gb slim) @ 2 gigs free
hdd @ 7 gigs free (20gb from my phat, formatted, has fsd and xex, also has dance central 2 extracted in the Games folder)
usb memory stick 3 gigs free (it's 4 gb stick, only has the SystemUpdate folder)

Hmm, is it possible this is just the Kinect update? If so how do I allow my xbox to get back on live? When I built the flash image I did select to apply the 2.25 dashlaunch patch- is this whats stopping me from getting on live?

Or can I download the kinect update somewhere and put it on my usb key?
