I have been on this for 3 days and im still getting the E79 after Xell. I have re solderd all the Jtag points, and have tried the other method by modmonster, but still E79. When i read the nand I dont get any faults or bad sectors. If i Take Xell off/re write my original dump back to the console everything is fine and it boots with no problems.

Really need help on this.....Does it qualify for one of the test kits????

My xbox 360 kernel is 2.0.7357.0, CB version 1903. Xenon board.

Hi all I gave up waiting for one of these new test kits, and took off the jtag quick solder boards and used the switching diode method.

see pic below

Got the diodes from maplins 1n4148 switching diodes.

maplin part number ql80b.

All is working as it should. I found this easyer to solder than the quick pads.

:D :) :D :)

Logical thinking, as I would expect anyone to try this method before asking for the new jtag kit.

Just done my second jtag install on a xenon board, used the switching diode method again and it work first time. No bad blocks on the read.

This seems to be a good, solid and reliable way for the jtag part of the install.

Ok... Well I know i am suppose to state clearly with picture my issue at hand. However before doing all that (i made an account just to ask) are these free kits still available and do they really work? See I repair and other mod to the xbox 360. Been doing this over a year and I have jtagged many xboxs. (mainly xenons) And I have never had this issue before. I have installed xbr ( I always install this first then update with usb) and I get e79. No matter what I do. I have tried just xell and a virgin xbr install. e79. I have checked my solder spots with a meter and all check out. ( i know my points are good I am good at soldering wasnt until i started this thanks to the lite on 935 drive ;) I have never had this issue before at all and i am thinking i have one of the rare ones. I have done extensive research on the xenon for this and it seems that most of them with this issue have cb 1903 as well as the one i have. So i know it is jtaggable (i have done 1903 before) I will post pictures of my work ift he kit is still up for free grabs

e79 is an issue with your sodering. No matter what you say, e79 will only be showing up if its your sodering. Check your diodes.

ok well i think you were right. rechecked the diodes for the heck of it and apparently j1f1.3 is completely dead which i dont understand never had this issue before. are their alternate spots?

theres more than 1 reason for e79. most of them are covered in this forum. soldering is just one of them. have a read through the forum and once all avenues have been exhausted then maybe you do need 1 of these kits.

well the only other problem I can see if he had bad blocks. Though, I dont see why he would start writing if he had errors.

ive never remapped a bad block. the only time i would is if it was in the first 50 blocks as thats where xell is written. ive only ever had 1 e79 and that was the 1st i ever did and it was a bad solder joint.

hi

Im new here ( virgin poster ) i followed this tut http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-JTAG-your-Xbox-360-and-run-homebrew/ using the 330ohm resistors and the switching diodes methods both with the same result each time... I soldered up the 25pin d-sub to the board ( so i didnt use the USB method )

Starting the xbox using the eject the machine would boot to xell and i get my cpu key... however when I boot without the drive open i would get the dreaded E79.

I have carried out the flashing process loads of times with no success so I have reflashed the original .bin file back and the xbox is working perfectly...

Think I could do with trying this method ( dont mind paying for it ) I just want to get it working the way it was "meant to"... lol

yes m8... I have tried a few different methods now.

I have a 7371 xenon, CB 1902 with no bad blocks on the original nand.bin

I have tried flashing the first 50 blocks of the nand.bin and also the full nand.bin

The xbox is in its original (stock) state again and working as it was.

If you could tell me what points these extra boards bridge (wiring diagram) or give me a price for them I would be very greatful.

I have a xenon board with the cb version as 1921 and my dashboard as 5766

here are the steps i take to try attempting to get xell to work:

1. i use cmd and manually read the nand 3 times
(they are all good blocks)

2. i use degradded to get the cb version

(wich is 1921)

3. i use cmd and manually write xell to the xbox

Results:

I get the e-79 error and i have tried many different switch settings and jumper settings. I even try to restart the whole process by putting the original nand back on. and each time i still get e-79 error.
